As above plus some trees drop branches . Some of these can be very big . Then there's branch splitting away from the main trunk . And conifers like you see in forestry commission site break off near the top in high wind and fly or get up rooted . Trees can and do offer good temperey shelter from a down pour or sun shade and even wind a site sheltered by a line of trees can make hughe difference in windy conditions .
Oh and some trees drop sap on your tent and birds roost and feed in trees so you could get covered in $h!+
No, sounds ideal but lots of reasons not too. The same tree that may give shelter from a rain shower may drip water for hours after it’s rained... plus as other have stated may not be safe in stormy winds or thunderstorm.
We had the misfortune of being pitched under a large old oak earlier this year, ended up with the tent covered in bird droppings and as above, when it rained and after it stopped, it still was like it was raining with all of the drops of water coming from the tree. Also had a few branches break off too Had we been given the choice, we wouldn't have pitched there.
I'm pitched under a tree as I type this, on the same pitch I've chosen to pitch on for the last few years. Yes, we've had rain and it has dripped for a while after, not an hour though, had very gusty wind and had the odd twig dropped on us, yes you get the odd bird up there who drops you a message - I find a baby wipe soon gets rid of that, so I guess it's down to personal choice, we like it.
I was under a tree a couple of years ago... drip drip drip... and the creaking of branches with the occasional twig dropping onto tent. Not to mention the wind... or the sound of it, is a little emphasised, a stiff breeze sounds according to my daughter like a force 10, scared the wits out of my daughter
This year I was alongside, but not directly under, no dripping on the tent no twigs dropping, but the wind blew and the trees creaked. Is there really a happy outcome? But no, I won't ever go under again.

No I would never pitch under a tree if I could avoid it. Bird poo, sap and falling branches to mention just 3

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
