I noticed most of the camping shops have huge sales on. Do they carry on through the winter?

Is it better to buy gear now, or wait till new ranges come out in the spring, and sell off the last years stuff?

Tricky one, I would imagine most retailers would like to turn any stock they have left back into real cash. You run the risk of whatever tent you are looking for being sold out.

Many of the tents being offered at reduced prices are of limited stock, be quick to grab a bargain.

This has become quite a frequent question on UKCS as of late. The best time to buy would really be now. By the end of September you would really have limited / no stock to choose from, and many tents have already sold out, or are in such small supply that the value of them would not need to drop much to sell.

If you are after a particular tent, perhaps checking whether there are many still in stock would be the best plan, as it would allow you some form of idea as to when they may go out of stock.

In regards to next seasons tents, they would not be being sold until after the winter of the new year.

A lot depends on what type of tent you are looking for. I notice some stores are still trying to shift 2010 stock on some models, so bargains to be had...
The bargains are there and would imagine they will continue to be for some time yet.

The New 2013 tents will normally be available from March onwards (some sooner some later). Most upgrades are minor and over recent years we have seen prices hike quite considerably so you run the risk of buying a more expensive tent for more or less the same quality .It’s a gamble you will have to decide I’m afraid. However I would be happier in last year model knowing I paid a good price.

My only word of caution would be accessories. Try to get them at the same time as you may find the carpet or canopy harder to source on next years model or may not fit due to a redesign, change in specification or the tent being deleted from the range.

Rumour has it that quite a few 2012 tents will be discontinued for 2013 so as mcguire has said it would be a good idea to get the accessories as well
