I'm considering an electric blanket next time we go at a colder time of year. I find SIMs much warmer than an airbed. Sheepskins for sitting on make a chair very cosy. I layered up the kids in thermals, fleeces, hats etc, but my eldest stripped in the night when he got too hot! A glowstick helped me see that when I checked on him - think he probably had the beginnings of hypothermia (we'd had snow the day before and night temps were well below zero). I'd probably gone OTT on his clothes and bedding as he's a hot bod normally (sleeps without PJs and duvet at home usually). Kampa khazi or similar to avoid trips out at night? Flask of hot water for cup of coffee in bed (or emergency hot drink during the night for small children who are too cold in our case!!!).

... it is much easier to stay warm than get warm. Start putting on extra clothes layers, pullover, fleece, whatever, before you get cold....If it's cold get into bed with your clothes on.
Very sound advice, 9iron.
If you start to feel chilly in the evening before bed, either do a bit of exercise or pile on the layers.
In cold weather (by which I mean near-freezing) I keep my shirt and trousers on when I first get into my sleeping bag. Once the bag is warmed-up I take them off.

... try and buy a couple of 3 season sleeping bags...
If you want to sleep warm, buy the best bag you can reasonably afford. If you intend to camp frequently in temperatures below 5 degrees C, then invest in a down-filled sleeping bag. Weight-for-weight, price for price, down outperforms synthetic fills. Until you've used a down-filled bag, it's hard to believe what a big difference it will make.
During the day, three factors determine how warm you will feel - appropriate insulating clothing worn in layers, adequate energy intake (especially hot food), and the amount of physical activity you do.
In summary: dress warmly, eat hot meals, keep active, buy a quality four-season sleeping bag.
