France is brilliant for dogs, they are welcome nearly everywhere. I've taken my chap twice and each time he made our holiday complete.
While the campsite we were at didn't have designated dog walks like some here, people with bigger (and braver dogs than mine) were exercising their dogs alongside and in the river that our campsite was next to.
They can go on the kayaks too.
Mine takes a day or two to settle into the new routine but I think of him as a member of the family and wouldn't want to leave him unless I really had to. Saying that, I have a husband who was ademant that getting a dog would not restrict his holidaying so when we go further abroad he stays with my mum.
I take a windbreak so he doesn't get too yappy.

We are getting a springer puppy at Xmas and plan to take it camping next may & August with us. We have 2 boys 5&7.
We pretty much spent this years hols looking out dog friendly stuff to do - we love north Devon and usually have our main 2 weeks there.
We came to the conclusion that cinema is tricky if rainy as only 1 of you could take the kids and theme parks. But, find a good doggy day care near the site and book them in. Our local one is less than £10 from 7am to 8pm so defo time to do a non doggy attraction.
We came to the conclusion that as long as its not constantly pelting down we could easily keep the family entertained (incl dog) with walks, beach, national trust, boat trip (some are doggy friendly) visiting towns, hanging on site. We tend to do "attractions" when the weather is bad but in honesty with a dog we would probably just get togged up and do walks / beach anyway. My lad, bless him told me he loved the hike up baggy point we did more than our recent holiday of a lifetime to Disney.
That said i posted a similar thread recently for dog friendly attractions and got some great ideas. We are considering going to do north Yorkshire as our first trip with the pup at whitsun as its a short drive and lots of the attractions are dog friendly In case we find we need to be out of the tent if the pup is hard work and weather is bad(steam train, flamingo land, Eden camp).

We sadly no longer have our 2 dogs Lost them to old age!!! The only problems we ever had, was if the weather was hot, you can't leave them in the car if want to visit somewhere, where dogs can't go in. Other than that they loved it!!!
------------- Enjoy life while you can, none of us know what's round the corner!

Our 2 yr old cavelier king charles enjoys camping, he started at age 1. However, I find it quite difficult having him camping because he's very clingy to me, and the moment I am out of his sight he starts to bark to try to get me back ... so I even have difficulty in going to the bathrooms without taking him with me! This issue isn't such a problem at home because its quite easy for him to follow me around if he wishes. In general, it is quite restrictive having him with us while we are camping, and that doesn't mean we love him less. For example, there are lots of activities that we want to do when we are on holidays that are just not suitable for a dog and it would be unfair to leave him in the car for the duration of that activity and I would never leave him alone in the campsite if we were not there. For example, we love to kayak but he hates water, so as a result when we kayak we can only go out on the water for about 30 minutes (whereas if he's left behind in a kennel then we can go out to islands, bring a picnic and make a day of it). And last weekend, there was a fabulous stately home that we wanted to visit while camping closeby, but we obviously couldn't bring our dog: we left him in the car park for about 30 minutes while we toured the outside of the grounds but we had to miss going inside because it would have meant leaving our dog in the car for too long). Last summer I had considered bringing him to France with us, and was so glad that I didn't: we enjoyed trips up the alps on chair lifts, we went to adventure camps, we went down mountains on tabogan-things on tracks .... we had loads of fun like that and would not have been able to do any of these things had we our dog with us. So, for local holidays I normally bring him with us on holidays (because kennel fees are quite high) and I just deal with the restrictions of him being with us, but for a foreign holiday I wouldn't dream of bringing him as it would be too restrictive to us, and I know he's very happy in the kennel anyway, or staying with my father. Bosley has been camping since he was a year old and loves it. Initially he was a bit woofy at other dogs or people passing by but that's gone now and he just relaxes outside the tent all day in the sun! We adopted a second dog recently, a 10 month old Cavachon called Olly. He'd never been camping before so we were a tad nervous about taking hom with us for a week in the tent after we'd only been his new family for a week too. But he loved it. Get yourself a corkscrew and a lead so he can wander around, he'll get tangled to start with but after a while will realise where he can wander and that he needs to come back teh same way to avoid the guys etc! Make sure you take him on a long walk every day, this will help dissipate the energy and get him to relax more during the day. Bosley gets a 5miler every day when camping, this keeps his exuberence under control, he then either flops for the day or stays with us when we go out and flops out all night, snoring!
------------- Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.

We take our two dogs camping. The greyhound really is no trouble and is the perfect camping dog and has been camping for 3 years now. This year we have started to take our springer camping and she is a lot harder work. The first important point for us is picking a campsite that will work for the dogs- we need somewhere where we can let the springer off the lead every day for a good run as shes no fun to keep on the lead. The springer is also cage trained and whilst its a hassle having to take the cage with us it means she can be locked away safe whilst the cooker is on/hot drinks on the go etc. It is restricting camping with dogs (especially when they are a bit hyper like our springer) but its not impossible. Somebody had previously said about their dog not being happy tethered up whilst they were pitcuing up- our springer crys sometimes whilst we are busy pitching. what helps is to take a frozen kong with us and give them it whilst you are busy- it def helps with our two to keep them busy.

Always take my dog camping and love it
I got a new rescue dog 3 years old last year and took him right away
It is an opportunity to be with them 24/7 and if you like that then give it a go
Mine is tired out when camping as he is always alert
I always keep mine on a lead on a campsite
He has been camping 6 times this year and now knows what is happening when we set off. He is over the moon

Mine get excited when we start getting the stuff down from the loft.
They watch us like hawks and stay near the door, just in case we try and set off without them.
