I rather fancy one of those too, (thought they were classed as poptop) and wonder if the bike will tow it.

I do miss the nimrod TT we had years ago when the kids were small and needed something more solid and easy-up when touring

Now we have a selection of tents and no trailer parking space, maybe that's why it's considered 'up' as you need parking space for snails or TTs

I "up-graded" to a caravan so that I could get away quickly and easily earlier and later in the season. Setting up the caravan literally takes 5 minutes.

I still use my tents though and still very much enjoy camping in them but I also enjoy my little trips away in Holi (off this weekend to a CC rally at Catterick Racecourse if anyone fancies popping over and saying "Hello")

The only up grade we intend to do is a new mountaineering tent .
Far to many restrictions with a caravan for it to be an up grade for us anyway .

I've got the building plans for the teardrop on a cd somewhere.Maybe one day I'll get round to starting it.

I presume you mean a motorbike. Unfortunatley the teardrop is too big for a bike. The maximum allowed to tow behind a bike is one metre wide and two and a half metres from the bike rear axle to the rearmost of the trailer. There is also a weight limit of 150kg including the trailer.

Snappydragon, how about these:

Can't see the likelihood of having one behind our KTM though.

Valkrider, we are deffo going to have a go at building one too! Have seen a couple in the flesh and they look so funky.

We have gone from tent to motorhome but dont look at it as an upgrade - its a change born out of necessity - once sat out in the awning it is just like camping

Yup motorbike

I've also been wondering about the possibilites of transmogrifying the superdream sidecar outfit (currently off the road) into a 'motorbikehome'   long enough for me to lie down in - so a pop-top with awning maybe?    It'll save making the Raptor lug a trailer

Much as we love our tents, I think "upgrading" to one of these might be kinda fun?

Caravans are for quitters. And besides, all the best camping spots Down Under are in places where you just can't tow a van anyway. Why tow an expensive van around, when you can get a motel room or cabin, just about anywhere?

Here in cold wet old UK we don't have an Outback, but I have to say those Aussie off road caravans do look nice.

I have a variety of tents to suit the length of stay etc.   I do not see any as an upgrade, better than the others.
If Richard comes with us, we then use our very ancient newly aquired trailer tent - this is because he can not sleep near the ground.  I do not see it as better than the tents.  Prior to that we had an equally ancient folding camper.

For me the important thing is that your unit suits your needs so that you can enjoy your holiday - and if that means swapping from a tent to a caravan then so be it - but please don't see it as a universal upgrade - just as something that is better for you.
