I remember posting last year as the new tents were on the way saying that if the manufacturers are trying to meet the worst recession in very many decades with new £2000 tents , I could not see great success in the idea,   Kampa seemed to wait and stick to their 2011 range for the new season and many comented on their price advantage.

Now for 2013 we have a debt that has grown again rather than shrunk and I cant see a recovery any time soon. I guess life has to keep moving in the high street and the last bad summer is almost gone but I do hope that the pricing next season will be more realistic .

Wonder how many £2500 tents Outwell sold ? I camped out four times for around 30  days and never saw one.

The higher margins on these will make it worth Outwells time, it's also about a manufactures having tents at this top level, the status, company image, etc so they probably don't have to sell that many.

I'm in the North East, an area of the uk with an incredibly high unemployment and yet our local BMW dealer last sunday was absolutely crammed solid, you couldn't move and forget any thought of speaking to an actual salesman.  Even in this part of the country there are still people with vast amounts of money to spend, in fact the richer continue to get even richer so maybe this is a market they should be moving in to when Mr average is struggling to survive.

Perhaps your right I do look forward to a BBQ with Lord Sugar on the next pitch ... ummmm that is what he does with all the wealthy guys..... ummmm tent in a field , not an RCV or a very large Caravan.  Have to say the other thing I did not see in The Lake District, Cornwall , New Forest, or the Cheddar area was a new 7 series next to a tent on a campsite. All those that have graduated to a newish 4x4  are pulling tin cans and that is where the money is.

Hi Fairywings.
can I ask how far you will travel to see this range of tents, I ask because I know how much these tents are going to sell for (£1000+) and I doubt there will be many stockists. I maybe wrong but the volume market for a retailer of family polyester tents is in the area of £300~£500 and up to £600 for the big family tents.
when I looked at these tents at the trade shows I thought there was no better designed polyester tent and I loved this range but then my business brain kicked in, I thought if I display it how many will I sell... Its not easy deciding what to stock and display.

Not sure if there'll be many polycotton's around next year from what i've heard, I know Kampa aren't continuing their range (correct me if i'm wrong Gary) and it seems that Outwell are keeping their range to the bare basics (i'm presuming the Lakes), shame really as they seemed so popular on here and are definitely more adaptable/comfortable........

I must admit, I did think that these "superior" tents would have a thicker (in terms of denier) polyester...... The vents are the same as those found on some of Coleman's tents and the zip-on pod thing isn't a new concept (vango Nile, Khyam ridgi-pod spring to mind), don't get me wrong, they look good and the frame is a great idea, they just don't get me excited TBH....

Would like to know the size of the pods.
and is that a front extension in the photos?
or different models.
interesting but would probably take longer to pitch than a standard tunnel.

The one thing that has sprung to mind with the style of these tents is that it looks like the vents can be closed off with a curtain/zipped blind. I wonder in a polly tent with all tight fitting (zipped, and I like the idea... I suggested this last year as the new ones were being dreamed of)  will get the problem of condensation.

If it is a sleep in, cook in , famile tent with little ventilation , or vents that can be closed off , we will hear claims of Outwell leaks by about the end of April 2013.

So in yearly style here is my prediction for 2014 design. Because of the wet and mud and wind etc new tents will be designed to work with the new style grass colour pitches. The base of the tents will be covered in hook and loop ( velcro) and they will be inflatable . So just fasten your tent base to the pitch as it rolls out and then turn on the electric pump attached to the car or EHU. No more mus, no more ropes pegs and stress.

3madboyz, you are correct, no more Kampa PolyCotton... The Outwell PolyCotton range has been updated/tweaked with new styles of old names such as the Wolf Lake and Bear Lakes and new sizes for the Trout lake, so still a big range of PolyCottons from Outwell.

The Trout lakes have been tweaked, a more panaramic front, no fully zipped/open windows but similar to the 2012 other than that re the Trout 4 but there is a ne 6, this has one large bedromm across the back with zipped dividers so you can have three compartments - 120cm 140cm 100cm or you can unzip a divider etc. The size of the 6 is 400cm x 510cm and the 4 is 310cm x 500cm.

The bear lakes have new panaramic angled fronts as does the wolf lake with a more rounded frame... Outwell are releasing videos much earlier than they ever have so keep an eye out for these.

so in the lake range you have a wolf lake 5 & 7... Bear lake 4 & 6 and Trout lake 4 & 6..
