Although we've only been camping 14 months we've had our fair share of tents so obviously sold a few on but why is it when I find out the Elody is going to be used as a temporary shed I get a little sad? we only used it the once and I've got my money so why?

You're not the only one, i've kicked myself and wondered what's happened to it for years since I sold my little Sunncamp Villa 4 as it was a lovely little tent, just not big enough for us.

I'm the same we sold our royal monty 12 because it was just too big for us.I hope the person who bought it has had fun in it.I feel sad that we didnt do everything we planned to when we bought it but step children have grown up and dont want to do things like that anymore so its just us and the 6 year old.

I sold our wee Atom 3 to a festival-goer. I hope it had a nice life and wasn't ditched on the first outing.

You're not sentimental - well, not much

Arrgghh! There's no such thing as 'just a tent', KampaWendy!

I still have every tent I've ever owned, going back to 1962! Eleven in all. I just could never bear to part with them. I suppose I wouldn't have got much for any of them, because we used each one for many seasons before replacing it. We could do with the space, but I just love them all, and still get them out and put them up occasionally, just for old times' sake!

Yes, I think I'm nuts, and have tried many times to talk some sense into myself, but you really can't argue with passion!

So you're not alone, Tynxuk!

Friend of Owls, when does one move from being a collector to being a hoarder?

Hehe, I freely admit, I've been a hoarder - of all things, not just tents! - all my life. Believe me, the tents are the least of my problems! Poor OH is a minimalist, so it's hard for him. As I get older, common sense is asserting itself, and I'm fighting my packrat nature and winning... on the whole!

But if I had to get rid of 90% of the 'stuff' in our house, the tents would be the last to go!

When our first tent had to go to the great campsite in the sky, I did feel a little sad. We'd had it 17 years I guess and it was the first big purchase I made when I got a full time job.

But it was a tiny 4 man dome tent, that you could only really sleep 2 with kit. No head room, no front porch, poor HH rating....

our 1st real tent was a vango orchy bought in the craigdon outdoor shop in Inverness.
it was a great tent and being our 1st real tent i really liked it. had a lovley wide bedroom and a spacious for 2 living area.
apart from really liking the tent it was also our 1st real camps and the lovely memories of these trips.
i was sad to sell that tent but i longed for a polycotton after reading about them on here!!! (its all this sites fault u know!!! lol) and we sold the orchy to put the money towards the trout lake which we like very much ( we dont love it yet tho like our orchy!) so yes that tent had sentimental value.

I understand totally.

When I look at a tent, or pics of it in holiday snaps on the PC.... I cant help but be filled up with reminiscing about the holiday, the people on that holiday... and always at the centre of all the happiness in a way "the tent".

When we ditched our last tent back in 2008 after she finally succumbed to storm damage in Cornwall (but still held out till the end of the holiday, all gaffer taped up, bless her!)I felt really sad about it. I still wonder if I should have kept her and tried to source parts to repair. As it is, I still have a section of the fabric I cut from the flysheet with the tents model name on it that I cut off before I put the tent into the recycle bin on site. A cheap tent to be sure but she provided irreplaceable memories.

Its like saying goodbye to a faithful friend.

Planned for next year, hopefully!

Summer Solstice wild camp.

Chilled in a Field, July.

Crantock, August. Fouth year with the fantastic Quechua Base Seconds 4.2!
..... and the odd night wild camping in my Argos 1 man tent...
