I have many a time used a stock photo (or a google one) to show the item I am selling
I have never ever had a problem and everything I have had has sold without issue
I do however try and take photos wherever possible
As a buyer if it is stated in the advert regarding the photo then I am fine with that and take that chance
However you are likely to get more for your sale if you do use your own photos, but sometimes it isn't always possible
