Hi,
I am hoping to go camping with my 3 kids and 7 month old shih tzu pup. I was hoping to use the swimming pool on site while we were there. My pup is crate trained and I wondered if it would be acceptable to leave my dog in the crate in the car while I took the kids swimming? Would probably only leave him for about an hour. He is a great dog and very rarely barks.

Do you mean 'acceptable' to the dog or to the general public? both of this would depend on the weather, even this time of yr the car interior can heat up in direct sunlight. If the sun is out it would be better to leave dog in his crate on your pitch with some shade.
Again, the tent might be too hot in hot weather & direct sunlight. It depends on the weather, if it is hot you will need to leave him outside in shade.

I agree. Don't leave him in the car, or the tent, but create some shade for him and make sure he is happy and settled, with access to water.
And I'd recommend you try this out at home first (or in a friend's garden, maybe?). Our Lab will happily stay on her own for a short time and doesn't bark or make a fuss. Everyone always says how good she is.
Yes agree crated outside the tent shaded by the tent and some covers on the crate would be best...And maybe block his line of sight of the campsite with a windbreak or something...Might get a bit agitated if he spots another dog or kids he wants to play with and can't get to them....

I would not even entrtain the idea of leaving the dog in the car. A crate outside in the shade with access to water would be fine. When we camp with our dogs, we plan as much as we can to incorporate the dogs into our activities, but if we do have to leave them to go swimming etc, we leave them outside the tent but thethered to the likes of a ground spike or similar. We have a cheapo pop up 2 man tent that we leave so they can go in if it rains. Our dogs are not barkers though, and at 7 years old each, they are at the stage where they just like to lie anyway.

When we went away at the end of Aug, we left our dog crated in the tent when the weather was off, and under the canopy awning with a light sheet over 3sides when it was warm. We left all the bottom zips, and the bottom of the sides open on all the doors (3) so that air circulated around the tent. She was also next to one of the doors. If you have a sheltered side, that isn't exposed with a door, perhaps you could leave the door open with just the fly screen closed. We made sure she had clean water before we went. she was happy enough when we got back.
I may be shot down for this, but I would leave my dog in the car at this time of year, in the shade, for a short time. Equally so for a tent. Not sure about the length of time it would take to go swimming though, that's probably too long.
Maybe England has had warmer weather but here in Scotland it's been a while since I got into the car and felt it even "warm".
I think you just have to go by the weather, the situation and your dog. You'll know best at the time,
