Hi Jim1977.
Give Shield a phone call, and ask them what they would pay out in the event of total loss.
I think you may want to cancel your policy, when they give you the answer to that question.
Having said that, if you have bought the tent new in this current year, then insurance is probably a good idea for a tent that costs say £1500+ but once into year 2 and further, it is probably not worth it.
Hi Francais, the tent was indeed new and close to £2000, so even if they paid out the price to replace on the used market it should pay out £1500. As you say, in later years it may not be worth it, but even if they paid out £500 for a 3 year old tent (going by what Bear Lakes go for on eBay and the air tents go for more), that is probably still worth it. For a tent worth less than £500 used it is probably not worth it.
Yep Jim, I have no idea of the value of my Tent, it cost £699 brand new back in 2008, the equivalent but lower spec model would now be the Cabanon Awaya 370 costing say £1700!
So if my tent was to become a total loss, it would cost me £1700 to replace.
But at 6 years old I doubt Shield would pay out any more than £50 even though I have seen the Biscaya 370 Cotton of 2008 vintage go for upwards of £500 on the EBay and Preloved etc.
I am still thinking about insurance for my Tent Trailer and Kit, and would like to insure for a specific monetary value for each section of kit.
I dread to think what my valuation would come to for near identical replacement of kit in cash.
And I would imagine if it was even possible to insure in the way I have in mind, the premium cost would be a ridiculous amount.
