I am 65, OH is a mere boy of 64, I am much fitter than him, he has genetic aches and pains but we will caravan for as long as possible, and that means actual touring, the thought of a static doesn't inspire me, that may only happen if OH wasn't here any more.

As I didn't rediscover camping until about 5 years ago I have every intention of carrying on as long as I can manage. Still so many tents to try and places to go! It's very encouraging to read all the earlier posts and think that, at 50, I may have a few years camping in me yet. I've told my daughter that when I'm too old to manage, she's got to take me camping with her. (Poor thing!)

Simontipler, I hope 'the wife' is pretty much recovered now after such a shock . A timely reminder that we are all mortal and not to wish time away.

I'll be 50 this year (still can't quite compute that) and I also rediscovered camping about 6 years ago, and so introduced my OH to the joy of tentx.

I fully intend to carry on camping as long as I enjoy it. I sometimes hanker for an apartment on a Greek island but would probably miss the tent if I did that! It's 50:50. Only wish I could afford both.

I think, like many things in life, that the 'I can do that' rather depends on the person and what they tell themselves is OK at what age...

Get a purple hat, find a tent that's a cinch to pitch, or a caravan/TT and just Go For It. You're a long time dead.

I've seen people in their 60s camping (Dutch I'll admit) with a tiny crawl-in tent, but Lafuma reclining chairs. They looked so happy and fit and inspirational. I want to be like that, not tucked away in corner wearing polyester smocks, crossing my arms and believing I'm too old to live or be active.

So there.

I'm 61 (eek!!) and feel fitter than ever having recently lost 3 stone in weight! So am hoping my camping days continue for a long time - I still have tents to try out and equipment to test yet but I tend to forget my age and am lucky enough to not have any aches, pains or age related ills!

I reckon looking after babies and small children keeps me young but it also cramps my camping style  17 - never mind, camping next week - 1st of the season so can't wait!
