So I'm thinking about this years trips. The problem I have is how to set up the electrics. I fully understand about overloading and tripping. This is more about cables. We have a tent and a kitchen tent. We have this equipment,

In the main tent, a light and a heater, but this year we will also need to charge phones, kindles and Nexus.

In the Kitchen we have a fridge an electric pan and a kettle.

Obviously we only need the heater and light in the evening, and the kettle and pan would probably be unused after dinner, save for the odd cuppa. Now I don't want to keep moving the rcd. So is it better to keep it in the tent or kitchen.
How do you guys do it?

When we camped, we had the RCD in the tent in the corner with a multi extension for the 3 way fridge, ONE fan heater and TV. Cooking any extra heating was all done with gas.

Just a friendly warning though.......

Last year, when we camped, we had to camp the week before Jubilee because we couldn't get time off for the BH.

Anyway, just watching others arrive as the week went on, campers - not caravaners were pulling out (from only what we saw), 2 ring electric hobs, halogen hobs, electric slow cooker, halogen radient heaters and upright fan heaters and electric KETTLES!!!!

There were 2 'ring mains' to the site, one side - mainly 'vans, the other - mainly tents.

Once everyone was 'settled' for the evening, the fun started, tripping!

From about 6-7pm you'd get 15mins between trips. The warden had to come out and tell everyone to turn everything off for a short while - the main cable at the meter was near enough melting off the wall!!!!

Long post I know but, you maybe frowned on if you're using too many lekky things.

I know what you mean about too much electric. The Fridge gets turned off when the sun goes down and the kettle and pan are used no more than an hour a day between them. Other than that the heater is maybe an hour in the evening, rarely in the summer and the light is about a couple of hours.

The one time I needed lecky in both the utility tent and main tent I just chose between them, and the utility tent won. It meant the heater was in the utility tent but luckily there was enough room for a couple of chairs too.

I got around the problem by having the EHU in the tent along with the fridge, light and heater.
Ditched the electric kettle and use a whistling one on a small suitcase stove which is kept in the utility tent along with all the other kitchen stuff.

In the summer, I put the EHU in the utility tent as I don't take the heater and it stays light for long enough in the evenings to only need to use battery UFOs.
