I don't know what's wrong with me, but I haven't booked a single trip for this year yet! I think it's partly due to a bit of turbulence with jobs and houses, but I really need something to look forward to. The children are growing up too fast and there's not many years left before they are going off with their friends instead of camping with us.

Is it just me? Will my enthusiasm come back? I don't even know which part of the country I want to visit. Help inspire me, please...

what kind of camping suits you? Do like facilities or views? Outdoor activities or taking it easy on site? Do you like one site for a fortnight or touring about (with the obvious pitching and striking every time)?

You could come up to Scotland and see somewhere very different from where you live. You could head as far south as possible and try for a sunny holiday. You could get the train/ferry over to France and enjoy a bit of foreign camping.

Sorry! I should've added more details. We are a family of 5 - three children aged 12, 10 and 9 - with a large tent, prefer sites without entertainment but with clean toilets and space to play badminton / cricket. We're in Somerset but travelling isn't an issue, although none of us own passports so as much as I'd love to go to France it's not an option right now.

We have a large tent and kids too. We like independently run campsites rather than chain holiday parks but we do tend to choose places with entertainment as our kids still love the mini disco type of thing.
Last year we went to trevornick near Newquay and it was excellent. Lots of space it the sports fields, clean facilities, plenty of helpful staff and although there was entertainment you could completely ignore it if you wanted to.
This year we are going to monkey tree just down the road from the site above. We like the area as there is lots to do with the kids and the local beach (Holywell beach) is excellent for the kids as it has a fresh water river running along the side of the sand. Means the kids can splash about and rockpool without dealing with the big surf.

Perhaps its the weather? I have usually booked my trips by end of Feb but only just started this week. Once the weather perks up am sure lots of us will get a bit more motivated! My incentive came back after trip to camping shop. We are hoping to try out places we have never been to and using reviews on here to help pic sites. Good luck!

I think a lot of us feel the same....Currently sat looking out my window at the snow flying past horizontally!!

Don't think last years weather helped much either....

Do a wee campsite search on here....look at some reviews...

Take a look at the tent review section as well...Seeing some tents up in situ might inspire you.....

Hark at me who usually has his main holiday all booked by now and for some reason can't be bothered....

Might need to join you in those two topics myself...

Jelboy.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I think you're all right that once the weather improves I'll be much more in the right frame of mind. I need to get to some camping shops and smell the tents, that always puts me in the mood!

As others have said, I don't think the weather is being particularly inspiring at the moment!
I have a 3 seperate trips planned over the Easter break but have to say I don't feel very enthusiastic about any of them

If it makes you feel any better I havent booked any camping trips this year, normaly all booked up by the end of February. Only thing I have booked is 3 night in a static for the late May bank holiday as it actually worked out cheaper than a tent pitch on the same site

We are a family of three with a 6 year old and have decided to postpone the Easter camping trip as weather looks like its going to be very cold still. It is very hard to deter me from going camping in any weather but I don't want the rest of my family to suffer and be put off future camps.
So last night booked a short break at Shepherds View at Holmrook camping site in the Lake District for the May half term (only 1.25hrs away from us) and we are meeting up with another family, which is a bonus for my daughter.
I then booked a week at Nantcol Waterfalls in Wales which looks superb for the last week in July, very excited.
Whoops my finger just slipped and bought an inflatable sofa on ebay!
I ask a lot of a campsite, don't do holiday parks, but need a rural situation with facilities within 20mins drive along with ehu and a campfire and great showers/toilets etc. Oh and has to be near a beach!
I will wait and see what the weather brings for August, might be another week booked last minute, maybe Solway View in Dumfries & Galloway....
Can't wait!!
Mind you, we have had the incentive of upgrading to ehu for the first time and desperate to try out all our new goodies.

Right, here I go. Its cold, wet and horrible out side. The kids want feeding, you know there is a pile of ironing to do and you have to nag the other half to tidy the garden. And the kids just won't get off there nexus or playstation. You are more than a bit worried about paying those damn bills. But you know in the garage is all your camping gear, but you can't even think about that much. But you know, the Ironing will be the same next week and the week after, the garden will be tidy soon enough, now them pesky kids. Shall I just leave them to the electronics and wait till they are older and move out, Nah were not doing that. What we are going to do is phone Katie at Fforest fields

then say to her you need a week or so there in the summer. Its really well priced. She'll say yup no problem. By now you have realised its less than 2 hours from Bristol. You'll also read 8.5 million reviews about it being the place canines go to get replacement testicles. Then you think can it be that good. So you look at that pile of ironing for the 10th time, you really should get around to doing it you know. But having read the reviews you think why not. There's a bit of a smile on your face now as you pick up the iron. It all goes perfect, no double creases on the sleeves, even the delicates don't look as if they have been under a washboard not an iron. But the best bit, when you saw the big pie of ironing, you didn't realise that half of it was bath towels, Oh joy. And there is still half a bottle of Chardonnay in the fridge. Even better.

So the day comes and you turn up on site, George and Katie wave and settle you in. Not long until you have pitched, the scenery is stunning, but where are the kids/ Well they have already made pals and are off with them looking at the lake. Oh god there at the lake on their own. You rush up to find dozens of kids playing and about 10 adults just chatting and watching out for them all. So you have a wander, do some tent porn, stop off to say hello to a few people and decide to put dinner on. After dinner you wash up and meet another family from Somerset, pretty soon you are all around your tent enjoying a glass or 2. Come bed time, the kids are cream crackered, no electronics, just running around playing. You sleep the sleep of the contented. And after breakfast you notice the mountain and think we'll have to walk that one day, but for now, the washing up done your just delighted to sit in your comfy chair, pick up that book you have been trying to read and smile.

at the hintons - thats really a fab way to see it and its got me thinking of looking up fforest fields even though iv no idea where it is or anything else about it.
if it can do that, it can get any of us excited about our camping trips this year!

iv not booked anything yet either but im not worried about it, ill just get everything into my van and start driving and when i see something i like the look of, ill ask if there are any vacancies and if not, drive onto the next site and if nothing available ill sleep in the van with the tent as my pillow

We've been to Fforest Fields - it is something special, isn't it? I'm not normally keen on returning to places twice as there are so many other sites to visit, but I think I might have to be tempted to break that "rule". I did find it a bit cliquey when we were there, I'm painfully shy and struggle to break into groups. But the view. And the lake...

PS theHintons - tonight's ironing pile did genuinely turn out to be half bathtowels and fleecy jumpers, how did you know?
