Nightmare every year it seems to get harder , we started off with just the boot then a roofbox, next came the trailer , this year hubby bought a boat after persuading me that we can put it all in the boat and do away with roofbox and trailer as the boat is on a trailer.Oh and forgot about rear window bike carrier, so hoping the boat will now be the end of our packing and space issues !!!!
No disrespect meant if cost is a issue than tents are the way forward I wood sooner go on holiday in a tent than a hotel, but caravans are like tents but cosier and easier after all the Idea of camping isn't about hardship but enjoying yourself, what do you about overnight stops and lunches etc.
and tents are damp if you went away in the uk last summer it did nothing but rain it must have been hell
I was only pulling your wosname Mike. Actually, I'd love a Hymer, with or without an engine. But I've nowhere to keep one, and these days I'm trying to downsize and lose responsibilities, not add to them. Our unit folds up and goes in a cupboard

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
We started with a Mondeo estate and roof box. This then moved to a newer shape Mondeo state (slightly bigger) roof box and trailer. Last year the roof box went on the trailer and bikes went on the car roof. This year a Mazda 6 estate trailer and roof box on trailer, must get the tow bar sorted out or no trailer.
We have found carefull packing can fit loads in. However this is fine at home with plenty of time but we have found that on the campsite we end up packing in a rush and can't seem to fit it all back in as well, either that or it grows in size whilst camping!
Loved the caravan post !
Himself doesnt want to tow anything, which rules out a trailer let alone a caravan
Got stuck behind one of the new style mondeo estates the other day, it looks really smart as well as huge.
The more I discuss getting a new estate car with him the more convinced I am that he doesnt want to get a new car as he thinks the lack of space in the current car will stop me buying more camping stuff !
He says he has instigated a one in one out policy wrt camping gear
I think you'll be able to do it if you are careful what you take and practise packing. Don't take food - buy it when you get there. We went for 2 weeks so quite a lot of clothes too. We took an arrow lake (similar size I guess) without a trailer. This was in a Peugeot 307 sw with roof box. There were me, wife and 3 kids. The kids end up sitting things and all the passenger foot wells full. It seemed to go in much better going, but coming back and packing up at site seemed more tricky due to time pressure! The next year we got a trailer ( much better and able to keep all stuff in it in garage) and put the roof box on the trailer. Then we got a dog - boot space reduced for dog crate so trailer side extensions fitted. Recommend a trailer, easy to tow (forwards that is!) and makes it much easier.
You might be going 'simples' robnchar but those bikes look pretty loaded up to me. I bet you leant them against that bank because they would have fallen over anywhere else.
