I know there's several of us going. I've been looking forward to it for ages and now I'm not 100% sure if we can go.

It looks like we're going to be moving house either that weekend or the following Wednesday. Either way, I'm desperately trying to find a way of convincing DH that going camping that weekend will actually be of benefit to the house move!

I have been idling over the idea of decorating the tent in a seaside theme and so far have come up with ....... erm....... nothing. Short of leaving bucket and spades outside the tent in an artfully arranged and very creative pile that is.

Inspire me.

I just spat tea all over my keyboard! My youngest is dolphin/whale/shark obsessed and has been nagging for an inflatable every time we see them in a shop!

You can convince DH that it is worthwhile as it will
a - Relax you and put you in a good mood for the move
b - Mean all the camping gear has been brought out and is ready to load up for the move.

Will confirm above post. We moved house last September, and went one further than the suggestion above. We loaded all the camping gear into the trailer and went camping,as the last thing we did from that address. When we returned home, we went to the new house directly. Job done. We are actually in the same position again now, as we are in the process of moving again, as this was only a rented house while we found a new house. We should have been in the new one by now, but a certain high street bank, decided they were not going to give us a mortgage , even though it was for twenty thousand less than they had agreed in principle, and this was five days before we were due to exchange contracts. We are now going through the process of getting one through the Leeds, but they don't appear to be in any hurry to get it sorted either.
So, we are packing as I type (tea break) for a quick couple of days in the Lakes.
Get yourself off camping.

Raf48, please tell me it wasn't the bank that begins with a B? We've had awful trouble with the mortgage. We applied though a financial advisor and after 17 working days they requested more proof of income. Our buyers and vendor wanted a quick sale and the mortgage company hadn't even instructed the surveyor. Ranting at them on their Facebook page seemed to get things moving rather rapidly yesterday though. If they rejected it now & we had to start again we would definitely lose the sale.

Camping near the move isn't looking so much of a horrendous idea now! Now I just need to think how to decorate the tent!

No not B, but I doubt it will make any difference. I just typed you a long reply, but my brand new lap top decided to change to a different page and deleted it all. (By brand new, I mean about ten minutes old) They just deployed delaying tactics. Good luck.
Can't re type it now as wife is waiting to set off.
Back in a few days, I'll check back to see if you have any good news by then

Doing my brain storming for the seaside theme, so far I've got:

sand, sea, huts, boats, lighthouse, windbreak, parasol, deck chair, shells, buckets & spades, crabs, fish, nets, starfish, seahorse, seagull, pier, icecream, flipflops, driftwood, seaweed

I've got a few craft ideas for the children to do on the saturday morning which I can prep before we go or may get them to do them in the next few weeks.

Makes mental note to steal all Tynxuk's ideas......

So far I have some seaside bunting and have raided the kids buckets and spades. Plus a recipe for sand dough castles. I am not in the least bit creative

Hi Blue Stripey Kitten, do you have any further news re mortgage? We just got a letter asking for proof of monthly income, even though it is clearly visible on our bank statements that they have already copied. So over a month since this application began, and still asking for stuff they have already seen or could have asked for in the first place. Not to mention that we have now paid out nearly fifteen hundred pounds in extra rent.
The even bigger worry, is that someone else will put in a better offer for the house. This has already happened to us this time round, even though we offered the full asking price.

Sorry to butt in, but have just seen your post, raf, and wanted to advise you something based on our experience. Take the proof of income into your bank's mortgage guy, and get him to take a copy, then ask him to ring the mortgage peeps and find out whats going on immediately. I only say this because we applied for ours, and it was approved (thankfully we were coming off a self-certified interest-only mortgage ((yup, was a while ago!)) and wanted to change to a mainstream lender, so a move/purchase wasn't hanging in the balance). A month later we hadn't heard anything AT ALL, rang up and were told they had lost our paperwork and nothing had gone through at all, and that we'd have to reapply. In the meantime, the credit crunch had started and banks were getting ridiculously stupid over lending, and they actually refused us the mortgage on the second application! It was only because our bank's mortgage adviser pleaded our case for us, in that they had approved it and it should of gone through, but THEY lost the paperwork etc, that we have the mortgage at all. Don't let them dally or mess you around, keep on at them all the time!

Hope everything goes smoothly for you from hereon in

Nett x

Hi CatAndNett
Thanks for the info, but there's no chance that I can involve the bank. It's them that have let us down in the first place. It's a bit more complicated than I have mentioned as I did not want to take up too much space on this hi jacked thread, but it did concern the original poster. Our problem with paper work and income, is that we have just moved, and everything is in boxes, but sadly no idea as to which box it is in. We are just having to wait for the tax office to send us copies of the paper work required. So on this occasion, it is us causing the delay. We do have a LOT of stuff, which has been compressed into a small two bed cottage, from a large five bed house, and really is in total chaos with no space to move the aforementioned stuff about whilst looking for stuff. Any way thanks again for your advice, and we and Blue Stripey Kitten will just have to wait fingers crossed.

Hi Raf48

Mortgages are a right pain at the moment. I had a chat with our solicitor yesterday and she said they despair, the government are trying to encourage banks to give out money to get the housing market going but they are being a pain about it.

We came very close to losing our sale as our bank were messing about so much, they kept asking for more proof of income etc. The best bit was when they asked for the last 3 years worth of tax information, despite knowing full well that for half of that DH was unemployed. The whole point of us moving was that he got a new job 60 miles away!

In the end I ranted at them very publicly on their Facebook page, telling them how annoyed and disappointed we were and how I would shortly be moving my bank accounts. I did that at about 9pm one night, they rang the next morning and the mortgage was approved within half an hour.

We're still waiting for paperwork and things but its definitely moving and we now have a provisional date for moving. (10th May so it no way affects camping next weekend!)

It's appalling how incompetent these companies appear. How can they lose applications and things? It's not like they're overworked exactly at the moment!

The solicitor told me that they advise people to ring their mortgage company every day, if not twice a day to check on things. Hopefully they'll get bored of giving you more hoops to jump through.

And at the end of the day, it's our money they are lending out. I bet I find the tax forms just after the copies arrive
