hi, im about to venture into my very first camping trip soon, ive not camped in 33 years..and its scaring me to death, especially the toilet trips as i will be wild camping. its really interesting to read the posts on how others deal with it. thanks but im still scared.
Would you not be better to camp on a site first time? Then at least you've got a loo to visit whilst you get to grips with the tent. I think I would if I were you then at least you can relax a bit on this trip! I would have thought most campsites are fairly quiet just now anyway.
Sorry back to the toilet...
We also have a toilet tent I forgot about now you all know we have far too much stuff lol! We used it on a trip to Shell Island as the loos are miles away, loo in the toilet tent by day and in the middle of our tent by night!

i think you might be right..i will have a look at some camp sites. thanks x
Do most campsites charge extra for having a "toilet tent"?
We have a toilet but I dont think it will be coming with us for a while as we havent got room in car yet (not ventured into world of roof boxes yet ..!)
My question of keeping it fresh has now been answered so thanks peeps!
We upgraded last year from a Kampa Khazi to a Kampa Portaflush, which we keep in the spare sleeping compartment. There are no smells and it has its own cover for daytime. We do have a loo tent but the last time we used it a stranger did a number 2 in it (the non-flushing toilet, yuck!)
------------- Camping addict and compulsive tent-buyer.
We went very low tech with an old mop bucket which lives in the lounge at night and is only used for no.1's. In the morning it gets emptied covertly into the nearest hedge and lives upside down behind the tent during daytime. So far it's been well worth the £0 we spent on it!
------------- My OH is convinced that a permanent raincloud follows my tent where ever it is pitched. Apparently, I could end all drought and famine in Africa simply by pitching my tent there!

We're even more low-tech. We use an empty Persil bottle (I use a small funnel with it). First one to the showers in the morning takes the pee bottle with their wash kit and clothes and empties it in the lavs.
my mum picked up 2 folding pottys for 20p at carboot they come with bags with a pad in. we used them when camping at a festival for night time or 1st thing they are great for kids, and yes i used it a bit small for me but they work great and only small. and at 20p you cant go wrong.
