im going for it, with a gal pal, we are going camping under canvas, my first in 33yrs and her first ever..just sleeping one night to start with and its going to be within an hour of home if things go wrong lol

any advice on our first time trip?

Should be a laugh, personally I would practice putting your tent up with your gal pal before you go

Sounds great! I'd have a practice putting the tent up and down, pack plenty of warm clothes, blanket and sleeping bag, easy tea and some wine you'll have a great time!

i had a practice in my garden last week..a 10 min job took me 40mins..as i didnt know what a fly sheet was!! unless you know tent speak then how are newbies supposed to know these things lol

anyway, i think i will be ok next time, it was reasonably straightforward, even though the instructions were pretty rubbish. ive got a vango beta 350XL

i just dont have a clue were to go....exactly. i thought we could go to loch doon, as i was there as a child but not since and its not too far from civilisation. but finding the best spot to pitch the tent will be the challenge i think...

sheltered flat bit of ground thats not too close to the loch, bushes nearby (loo) and bum facing the wind.

mmmm, i have a feeling this will be interesting lol

Why not try the campsite on the east side of Loch Lomond? It's near the village of drymen. Nice flat site with electric if you want it.

You can camp right by the waters edge but be careful of the bloomin midgies if there's no wind!

There's a village shop within walking distance and a nice pub too for foods and drinks. You might want to stay an extra night so take some extra clothes just in case you realllllllly enjoy it and don't want to come home next day!

ensure first that your chosen location is 'approved for camping' ........there should at least be basic toilet facilities and fresh water tap....

i hadnt really planned on using a campsite. wild camping is what i want to do as i plan to get off once a month or so with other diving buddies so we can head away to the sea lochs and dive and stay in our tents and dive next day too before we head home. this avoids a 7 hour round trip to get to fave diving sites.

Sounds exciting! Very brave...I like other tent folk about when we're camping altho i'm not sure they like us being so close with the OH's snoring!
