Im all nervous and excited. Going to get my wagon serviced and then pay a few trips to camping shops, then head home and spend the afternoon packing, pick the kid up from creche, hopd the hubs does a bunk from work early and we'll be off around 5. I took the day off, cant wait. Im like a child thinking about it.

I love packing too! its like Christmas has come early. I was down in the garage leaving off Betsy and the Yeti on the show room floor had the skoda roof box on. he must have spotted my eyeballing and said I could fit one today for you if you're interested so i told him that while I was initially interested that cooled when I heard they were 520 eur fitted and mentioned that they're all half price in Halfords and I could live without theskoda badge so he said to leave it with him and he'd see if he coukd get a deal for me on one. Think hubs will have a fit if I arrive home with one when we've only got the one kid so there's loads of room in the car but sure he always calms down eventually.

Good luck to you, I hope all goes well and that you have a great time - enjoy a bit of it for me too.

My first trip this year was planned to be 7-11th May in Cornwall. Time off booked at work ages ago, kit ready, wife ready - all set and really looking forward to the break.

Then, last week I get a court order to give evidence in a case that will be going on between 8th and 16th May. £1000 fine for not showing up at the court which is about 6 hours from Cornwall. So that is that down the pan then.

Will try to get a weekend away when the case is over, and find a way to reclaim my holiday from work if at all possible.

But enough of my woes, may the weather gods be kind to you.

It was a camping disaster but a great weekend. We called it quits on trying to pitch the tent after 2.5 hours as it was getting dark. Even the other campers who came to help and eventually the campsite owner couldnt sort it. I wasnt going home though so we rented a mobile home from themfor the weekend. Not sure what I'll do about the tent. Im done with it as its completely useless to me if i cant pitch it inside 30 minutes with a toddler. Plus we broke the same fibreglass pole in the same spot as the one that was broken when we got it so Im beginning to suspect the tent is faulty. Im going to bring it back to the shop and see what they say.

Oh that's a shame, don't be put off tent camping. Sounds like you did get a duff tent, hopefully you'll get your money back. Check out the tent reviews on here before you get another one.

Aww sorry you had a nightmare on your first time out!! Id definitely be taking the tent back, ask them to show you how to pitch it, if nothing else! If it turns out its faulty, get a lovely new one (different one?), and have a test pitch in local park etc before your trip, so you know everything is ok and that you can pitch it when you get there. Trial runs are the way forward :)

Oh no how stressful Glad you still had your weekend tho. I hope you get your tent sorted and can enjoy some camping another time.

Tent pitching for us is all about practice. We've not used our big tent for a couple of years and despite the fact we've used it a lot in the past we still plan on a test pitch before our summer holiday.

If you get a new tent search the net for videos of others putting it up and down, I find this really helpful as often tent instructions are vague.
