Hi all. Last year was our 1st camping experience & we had 3 successful outings in all kinds of weather so we're coming back for more, this time with a brand new (well 2012 model) Kampa Croyde 6 (with extras:-)). Going back to our favourite site we found last year next weekend, then maybe a forest or lakeside trip next.

Do most people keep their old tents, just in case, or try to sell them on?

17 That's nice of you, 'cos I actually do need a kidney! TBH I'd rather keep our old one as a back up because for a 1st tent it served us well & probably helped us enjoy the bad weather days more than others may have done.

Gave my last tent (tigris 600) away to my la'al brother as he was surviving with a rubbish halfords tent which didnt have a SIG. Hoping to infect him with the camping bug, so perhaps not so generous after all !!

If you've got the space and don't need the cash keep it. You never know when you might want it or could pass onto family or a friend in need.

we gave away one of our old tents to my OH's brother, sold one to someone at work and plan to sell another one as soon as humanly possible...the three we have left (for long stays, weekend trips and over-nighters) will be kept for the time being until something more amazing and "must have" comes along...

I keep an old tent as a 'borrowing' tent. I'm not too worried if it doesn't come back intact (or at all!)

Obviously the tent isn't in any sense of the word a 'good' tent. It's a sig-less vis a vis with a small tear and a repaired with insulation tape pole in there somewhere. Still it's functional and has stood up to some very rough weather.

I,ve just came into the house after standing at my garage door scratching my head and wondering how did it come to this? Going on a camping trip next weekend ..so I thought a quick check would be in order....I have 6 tents! and that doesnt include the other 2 which belong to my daughters and their families. My main tent..a vango maritsa 500 with back-up from a vango 3-man and a vango 2-man for shorter stays.I also have a sunncamp invader, sunncamp kuro 500 and an 8 berth coleman columbus which is without a doubt the strongest tent Ive ever known .Ive decided to unload the last 3 somehow..but my family and friends are all tented up--mainly from me.When I part with a tent..I like it to stay close-so dont usually sell them to strangers.I think I might need some sort of therapy??? Decision made---3 tents to go!! or I might keep the coleman as I do have a soft-spot for it..and the kuro does come in handy for the odd bad weather weekend camp. Also the invader might come in handy for any non-camping friends with families who might fancy a try.Hope this answers your question...must go ...keeping an eye on a nice vista 800 on flea-bay---would come in handy as an up-date to one of the other tents I dont use. Oh..forgot to mention the 2 gazebos...I quite like the look of those coleman event shelters as well

17 Good god! Really? Does becoming a camper mean I'm going to have to collect numerous tents?......OK (I'm so weak willed).

I personally think you should have a tent for all occasions...and a back-up tent for all occasions !

Hell yeah! We've far too much stuff in OH's opinion! I even forgot we had a toilet tent the other day whilst posting on here!

I went through a furniture phase too...kitchen larder units, wardrobes, chairs etc etc

I'm also very weak willed and would always argue that we gave up foreign luxury for camping so I needed such items to camp in luxury

Currently going through a less is more phase...but even that included a new tent!!!!

Happy Camping!
