I've tried & failed to find a canopy for our tent that doesn't extend the length ridiculously. Because of the sloping-inward doorway, I wanted something just big enough to keep the rain off the porch so we can keep the door open for cooking.

Anyway, then I stumbled on the 'Tarp Pics' thread on here. And now I really, really, really need to have one. It would solve the problem perfectly with the Maritsa, we could use it with the Icarus and they just look soooooo cool.

I'm planning to buy one of Quechythingy ones from Decathlon (can't spend much after buying the tent & all the other stuff we really, really, really needed ) Sooo... do I need to get some bungees or is it good to go as it is?

Hi Vanessa, I tend to use paracord to tie my tarps down but some folks like to use bungees. The bungees will "give" a little in the breeze which may allow you to be more flexible with your tarp esp. if you are wrapping round an arc shaped pole. I am just lazy and I enjoy messing about with knots! If you have never used a tarp before then I would probably recommend bungees.

Thanks Jim. Do we actually attach the tarp to a pole then? I was thinking we'd have it about 2 thirds of the way back on the porch & guy it down either side then have the poles at the front to create the canopy? This would put the back part about half way between 2 roof poles.

The great thing about tarps is that they are so versatile. You can tie them to anything handy - trees, boulders, vehicles, poles, whatever is handy! But the most fun is experimenting with them!

Believe it or not Krazy, all but one were taken on Jims spot, just a wee bit further along than normal though!

My High Peak tarp cost 27 quid off Amazon,it is 10 foot square and came with 2 king poles and tiedowns,

We love our decathlon tarp. Looking at the pictures above we have used every one of the configurations dependant on the situation/set-up. We use bungees we bought on-line - small ones about 6 inches in length.

Thats correct Krazy, down at the low bit near the river. Hugh has since removed that firepit!

Purple, its just tied on to both steel poles where the fibreglass ones fit on to the steel ones. If I recall, I used a couple of Krabs to clip it on. The tarp edge just wrapped round the top and took the shape of the tent. Quite by accident! Formed a rain proof seal though!
