Hi there I am looking for any suggestions as to methods I can use to fit a home made curtain to cover a mesh vent in my Filey Classic. It has 2 zip up curtain widows with mesh vents on top however the vents have no seperate cover and draughts in cold weather can only be kept out by fully zipping up the window. I can run up a panel but was weary of attaching it to the flysheet by sewing. I thought about glue or self adhesive velcro but not sure. Would appreaciate any suggestions / advice re attaching the panel please.

Would the little stick-on velcro spots do it? Might be better than the strips of velcro although not sure how well they'd stick.

My old vango icarus did not have mesh on the front door,so I bought some mesh and attached velco to the side of the tent and one on the mesh.I used very long strip's of velcro to keep it attached and it worked fine. When I came to sell my tent I removed the mesh and velcro and the velcro had done no damage at all to the tent fabric,it was the sticky back type bought off ebay.

I made a cover for the vent in our frame tent. I used sew-on velcro, the loop part on the tent itself, and the hook part on the cover. It worked fine, I removed the cover when we wanted the fresh air, & put it back up on cold nights.

Thanks.....thought about velcro but as tent is polycotton didn't know if it would stick and stay stuck. Will buy some a give it a try. If that fails I will try sewing smaller velcro tabs on. Jean, did you use any specific type of needle or thread to go through the your heavy canvas?. Thanks again for advice x

if you only want to cover the vent could you not stick or sew velcro onto the mesh itself? I wouldn't want to stick or sew anything onto the actual tent incase of disasters, but would stick/sew onto the mesh bit (as it already has holes!). As long as the velcro holds the curtain tight it should be fine, especially if you use velcro strips rather than dots.

I used a needle for 'jeans', Gutermann strong thread and my old Singer treadle sewing machine.

For a polyester tent, you could possibly use a finer needle. If you want to be able to remove the cover in hot weather (hopefully!), make sure that you put the loop part onto the tent, otherwise if you forget to replace the cover before you pack the tent away, the hook part of the velcro would snag the tent fabric when it's rolled up.

Thanks all....had another look at it last night. Think I will hand sew velcro strips onto the mesh itself as I am rubbish with anything other than a straight line with a machine. Jean, thanks for loop part tip...I would never have considered that!
