May be a stupid question but have never used the above before. I have several tents, are there any universal canopies/extensions? Could any be used for any tent?

Most current tents and for the last few years tend to have awning/extensions or canopies as optional extras designed for your tent, so you might not easily find a “generic” one that fits all your tent. Good luck though.

You may find "cheaper alternatives" (than the manufacturers' tent-specific canopy/extension) that will suit each individual tent, maybe even two of them, but I would say there's no chance of finding one to suit all.

A lot of measuring, comparing, Googling, and research will be the order of the day!

Nearlynew tents on Ebay did a Universal one that they say will fit most Tunnel tents? I think it was a Vango one.

Lichfield did one that was called a Universal Extension but it was two or three years ago too. Ebay?

Front extensions tend to be more tent specific as they have to fit the width of the tent so a universal one would have to suit the width. Side extensions lend themselves to being more universal as they dont have to be a specific width all that needs to happen is the flap that goes over the tent needs to go more that halfway across to stop rain getting under it. I have used a Gelert Meridian side porch on the side of our Outwell Vermont L and and an Outwell Montana extension on the front

I have a Coleman universal canopy. The width is adjustable and so it fits pretty much anything. It is very useful although takes a couple of people to get it up! Mine came from Argos a few years back- don't know if they are still available.

I have a coleman universal. It's anchored by a few guy lines, but there is a lot a fabric and can get a bit flappy, its not waterproof either. That said, I bought some 'Cling -Ons' as per some instruction on here and I will be fabsil ing later. It is a good porch and made life easier last year when it consistently rained over August last year. Not waterproof but it did protect the tent a little. I have bought new tent this year and it happens to be in the same colour so all good. Cheap and cheerful and does the job, with a couple of windbreaks.

I think Vango called theirs the Adventure Tarp.  I can't check as mine is packed in my tt ready for my imminent departure for Holland next week.  We used it on a vango tent but are hoping to adapt it for overnight stops to avoid putting up the awning.

I'm useless at putting photos on here but will put one in my gallery.

Theres a high peak tarp on Amazon,i bought one for 30 quid and its 10 foot square and thats not the biggest they do,they also do sail shaped ones x

Just picked up a tarp/canopy from aldi, it's a cream colour but is massive, will do for cooking outside in the rain and making a little more room on wet days (had far too many this year, counted 14 out of 35 days camping so far, but it will never put us off!
