Last year we went away fro a nice weekend away just me and the missus, got to the campsite and all the fibreglass poles broke on our Gelert horizon 6 on pitching. needless to say we packed up and came home. I was so cheesed off i just throw the tent in the trailer and then in the garage. Then through family illness we forgot we hadnt packed it all away properly and it was in the garage. On checking the tent I found that it been attacked by mice. I thought our holiday for 2013 was up the spout. I thought I would lookon ebay and I found an outer canvas for £50. replacement poles would cost the same again.
Then just on the off chance the wife checked GO and to our amazment the Hi-Gear zenobia which is the basically the same tent but made for Go for £160.
So needless to say I bought it. Brand new tent with guarantee and I already have the Porch, Carpet, Footprint and with whats left from the old tent we have some spares.
I would say Our holdays are back on this year. Good result I would say.
Caution to all those who keep tents in their sheds or garages. Those blasted mice get everywhere and chew on anything.
That's why my tents and camping/fishing stuff are on racks in my bedroom....Came down to my lockup at the start of the fishing season a few years ago to find a family of mice in my rod bag....And every bit of the cork handles chewed up for nesting material...No way are my tents going in there...nor any other chewable material like chairs etc...
It's either my room...Or invest in Lion Pee from the zoo....

We were also fell victim to those squeeky pesky mice. Sorting out the garage and camping equipment, found our Vango Breckenridge thread bare. Panic then struck me, as we have another tent Vango Icarus 500,stored in the garage. To my delight they hadnt touched it....Phewwwww!!!. So note to one self buy some mice traps or bring the tent indoors.

I had my first big tent eaten by rats in the basement under an appartment block... They even had eaten part of the zipper!!!
Since then everything that could be chewed is kept inside the house.

These kind of posts panic me....we are a family of 6 and really don't have any spare room inside to store our tents etc so we store them in our trailer in the garage.
We have a cat that loves to hunt so hopefully he's keeping them at bay! I do take him in there with me now and then and watch him to see if he smells any - so far, so good. Like the idea of storing them in the plastic bins....might keep an eye for large plastic storage containers!
I bought an old TT in February and had nowhere indoors to store it. First opportunity to open it up - rats had been at it! Destroyed one of the main sleeping pods, front of the main canvas and urinated all over the mattresses! GUTTED or what?! I will not be beaten - I will have it all sorted for the summer holidays!!
Hi Scotzlynnie, dont want to scare you to much, but our tents were in the trailer,it possibly didnt help that the cover wasnt over the trailer, ooops my fault. But the little critters still got in. Am tempted to bring the one remaining tent into the loft. Perhaps the cat could set up home in the trailer.
