So in my husbands wisdom he has cooked and frozen a lasagne to take away with us next week camping. We have a cadac and he is thinking of using the bbq plate and the lid to cook the lasagne. Anyone have any experience of this?

I don't see how this would be a problem. Looking at one its no different really than using a large saucepan.. Which we reheat ours in sometimes but on a low heat.. Might be better using a stove and low heat but why not try it!

I guess there is only one way to find out. I did buy a meat thermometer yesterday so that I can try my hardest not to poison anyone. :)

Ok, I may be being daft here, but we have a cadac (the larger one) and the lid has holes in! So I'm assuming we can't use it to roast/bake things?!

According to the Cadac Carri Chef booklet that comes with it you can roast a whole chicken in it! I guess the holes will just let any steam escape.
We saw a Cadac Safari Chef demo at a camping show and the chap was doing roast lamb !

I've done a roast chicken and vegetables in ours and it was fantastic, there's a proper roasting dish available for them but I just used one from Lakeland, the same sort everyone's gran used to have, a white one with a blue rim

We have a Cadac and a Cobb and regularly roast chickens on the cobb. We have cooked frozen meals (that take 40mins+ in a conventional oven) on the cobb. We have used the cadac for bbq and other similar things but on a windy day I think it would be very difficult to guarantee that the cadac would maintain temp. O/h often uses a towel to insulate the cobb on windy days, because even the cobb struggles to maintain heat in bad weather. Also surely it would use a lot of gas to run the cadac for 1hr in unfavourable conditions. I'm sure you'll manage it if the weather is Good. I'm sure a home made lasagne will be worth it and have other campers looking on enviously.
Good Luck

You name it weve cooked it on our cadac. The lid (yes, even the one with holes) turns it i to an oven. If the lasagne is in a foil or ovenproof dish I would preheat cadac with lid on, cover dish with foil then heat it up like you would in an oven. Make sure cadac is not on high though. Ive did this with curry.

Hi feeblecat - what do you use on the bottom? Do you use the grill plate? If so, do you put the deflector underneath? I'm wondering how it works as I have images of the base getting SO hot that whatever is baking/roasting that the bottom just burns!
Thanks!
