Hi guys just got a new tent (well second hand ) outwell hartford xxl er....a bit on the big side but it was a bargin buy! problem is it has mildew, not horrific mind you, but I was wondering if anyone knows of the best way to try to remove it?
Some people do recommend cleaning it with milton sterilising fluid, diluted in the right amount of water..this kills off the spores i assume? It isnt recommended to clean them ith anything but water though, cos of the waterproofing. Maybe do the Milton thing, let it dry, and then get some reproofer on? Thats what id do, anyway, but ive not had to deal with that, thankfully. Im sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly :)
Thanks for that CatandNet thought of doing that, but was a bit worried it may damage the tent? we have got some waterproofing so will give it a shot at the weekend Eeek!
Rinse the milton off well and have all the doors open when you do it. Check that there isnt any mould behind the seam tape. Waterproofer goes on the outside of the flysheet

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Was it cheap enough to over look mould? Maybe it could be returned? I would not buy a tent that had mould on it, but if I ended up having one anyway, I would milton it, air it out lots to get rid of the smell and waterproof it again with Fabsil on the outside.
Brill advise guys the tent was a bargin.. footprint and carpet for 225 its in good condition just cos its a 12man tent its hard to dry out when it gets wet! hopefully we can get it sorted at the weekend,we are lucky to have a big garden lol
Well tent cleaned! Thank goodness sunday was a lovely washing and drying day. We found out after un-packing, the tent was mostly muddy lol with the odd small patch of mould all clean now! we took out the pods and washed them in the washing machine, it looked and smelled so good after we re-proofed it we went back garden camping well it would have been rude not too,as the tent took up most of our garden! thanks for the advise guys tent is spick and span ready for our first week away in it!
Awesome, glad you managed to get it sorted . Very jealous that you can pitch that monster in your own garden, though! We have loads of land (could physically fit mosts tents dimensions-wise) but front is all tiered and back is sectional and we have no grass! We have to put ours up in the park just up the road lol. When do you go away in it?
