Got a Coleman carpet for the tent. Used it and, as we knew, way too big for the Oakland xl. Looked at what was over and "ping" bright idea. Looked at the links on UKCS when we got back and yess! and promptly took note.
I have spent the last 2 days (on and off) measuring, cutting, pinning, binding and machining the carpet into our lounge carpet and our 2 fairly large side carpets (we have the bed in the middle). Tedious but relatively easy to do. OH helped - he of little faith who thought carpets were non-essential luxury (he obviously liked it more than he let on)
So campers, if you get a carpet that is too big for your tent - think - you might get that "ping" as I had - will it do in the boudoir?? If I can do it anyone can.
Many thanks for the threads relating to carpet cutting and machining - you gave me confidence to actually cut the carpet - and our 3 carpets are brilliant!!!!

Never be too shy to allow your bedroom carpet to run under the beds too, not just at the side of them. Sizes permitting, of course. It is an extra layer of insulation afterall.

We bought two of the Outwells for our BL, in a GO price match deal. The second one is to cut down to make two bedroom carpets. Keep dropping reminders, as we're off next month
I think the plan is to unpick the edging as required and re-use it.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
Mucker, yeah the side carpets for the bedroom will fit under the bed part of the way and use the legs of the bed as a weight to stop them slipping (we have the posadas double so can insulate a little with extra blankets) and by the time we get bits and bobs at the side they will "join" a bit more than we originally thought. (Don't know how to do that drop down bit - where you carry on a conversation with someone yet). Someone please let me know.
Mike = yup if you're going away soon - need to get done and dusted! There's always something else that will crop up - just pick a good film (not too absorbing) and unpick it then. We go away in less than 3 weeks and we have this to test, that to test (even food in OH's new halogen cooker) and other stuff before we go too! Then of course there is life in general that sometimes gets in the way - he ho!

I take my hat off to those that are crafty enough to be able to chop up and reuse the carpets but my brain just doesn't work that way so we have 4picnic blankets in our bedroom area - we removed the pods and are now "open plan" - 2 under the bed and one either side so its warm underfoot on getting out of bed

Which Outwell carpets did you get, and were they a good price?

The BL6 carpets, the green ones (the one before they went to grey).
Can't remember the exact price now but it was on a Price Match, about £60 each.

This one is a monster....408cm x 3790cm and just £20!! Some kind soul on here pointed me in the right direction for it and we 'butchered' it for our two bedrooms - a 3 man room and a 2 man room - and there is still loads left over. Highly recommended.
I've recently bought the one you mention pinkpigeon, even though I have a different tent and found it to be great quality. I would be rubbish at modifying it so opted for just running the longest length under the bedroom pods for extra insulation.
I had previously looked at buying a hi-gear carpet until I found this at a third of the price and it's a much better carpet.
I bought mine from Marshall's ( part of same company I think ) but they did free delivery over £30 and it was ordered wednesday and arrived friday ... happy camper!
Mine was a Coleman - the same as pinkpigeon got - and yes, they are humungous - it took 4 of us to hold it whilst we were measuring and cutting as hardly had enough room in our lounge (with furniture etc) to open it out and get the right dimensions we wanted. But we are pleased and will be using it - should I say them - a week on Sunday in Hereford.
I do hope the weather changes - 2 years ago we were in Northumberland in a smaller tent and on midsummers day and it was freezing!!!!!! OH took a picture of me in hat, scarf, fleece(s), duck-down gilet and still cold - definitely needed a couple of toddies!
