Hello! As you can tell by how long it's taken me to post, the major panic is over. We pitched the tent differently (middle pole first, worked back putting up one pole at a time, then worked forward) and it went up much easier. There were no broken zips - yey!!!!! All is still not quite right though....

There was one part of the tent (front left) which looked all pulled. We had to unhook this part from the first pole in order to get it usable - it was straining and affecting the zip if done up correctly.

The tension went to one part of the main zip where the surrounding tent fabric got all screwed up and it was hard to get the zip past. It also seemed to go down to the floor and the entrance to the tent on that side was raised and wouldn't sit properly, no matter how many times I fiddled with the peg.

Don't have adjustable tension straps by the way (really wish we did!)

I took photos - hopefully the right ones!(please ignore the rubbish!):

You can see it has been unhooked from this pole:

Grateful for any thoughts!

The metal jointer at the top of the poles..... where they bend from wall to roof...... On the first side, you can see all, or at least most, of the jointer. On the "Well behaved" side, the pole sleeve material is right down to the actual bend, so you can only see half the jointer.
(On the pole that you have unclipped, you can even see the first half inch of the black roof pole, whereas on the other side, only half of the metal jointer can be seen!)

First things first, the whole tent needs to be centralised on the poles, so it is symmetrical each side, with the same amount of jointer showing. Do this before any pole clips get attached, and before guying out.
Ideally, you also need to close all door zips (and windows, if you have them), before any pegs go in, and certainly before any guylines get tensioned up!

Try the above first, and see how it sits then.

Agree with Mucker... In the pics the tent is too far over to the well behaved side...Needs centering on the poles a wee bit more to the unruly side that should sort out all the problems on the unruly side...

BTW like all the technical terms we are using...ie..."Well behaved side"....."Unruly side"....

Daft thing is....we all know what we are talking about when using these terms..........

Jelboy.

If I can throw my tuppence into the mix... take a look down the line of poles at ground level... they are not in a straight line. That wont help either
