Slight diversion from the noisy neighbour thread as totally unintentional..About 2 years ago a group of us were camping on a site near Bassenthwaite and as usual had set up a mini-camp complete with bbq -gazebo-windbreaks etc(different thread going on this one if you wish to condemn our behaviour).Lovely evening,we all sat around eating and drinking, chatting and generally enjoying our camping.A few other campers had joined us and in particular-2 brothers aged about 40 and 50 who were pitched next to us in a small 3-man tent. They joined in-chatted-consumed a few beers and then retired to their tent.A while later most of the party had gone to bed...must have been around 10pm--because thats bed-time-right? I was probably the last to turn in..but had a quick check around first eg bbq out etc--This was when I noticed the aforementioned brothers tent door was wide open. As it was now raining,I did the decent thing ..moved their stuff back from the tent door and quietly zipped it shut.At 5 a.m exactly---the local church was chiming---an unearthly racket erupted form this tent..shouting--screaming--swearing and all at full volume!!I dont think a single camper on the site could have slept through this one. What could be happening ?Had a gang of badgers piled into their tent? Were they on fire? Many campers had ran over with buckets-hammers or anything else that might prove useful--many other campers just hung out of their windows or doors shouting "shut-up..youll wake the kids"etc. As it turned out everybody was ok..order was restored and one of the brothers explained---The other brother (who was visibly shaking)suffered terribly from claustrophobia! and one of his few escapes was a camping weekend...but he always slept with the door open!!! I did admit to zipping it shut and the brother thought perhaps he should of advised us of the situation...no harm done.....or was there??? At about 9.01 am the warden arrived with a hat-full of complaints about "that large group partying until all hours"...so I did the decent thing...and pointed out the tent where the rumpus was coming from True story (apart from the the last bit
Talking of noisiest neighbours......many moons ago DH and I went away for a week-end in a small 2 man tent. We were a group of friends whose mode of transport was motorbikes and when we arrived at the campsite we were not looked on kindly. We set up camp and tried to keep our merriment to an acceptable level. We all retired at a reasonable time not having upset anyone...yet.
Well it was the early hours when my DH starting yelling very loudly claiming he'd been kidnapped and was being suffocated. It was pitch black and I didn't have a torch but I realised he wasn't lying next to me so I added my shouts for help to his. His mates and many other campers started shouting to be quiet and by this time I was terrified because I didn't know where he was.
Then I felt a hand on my foot and the screaming got A LOT LOUDER!!!!! I thought they'd come to get me too!!!!!
Well, the outcome was that DH had managed to get himself to the bottom of the double sleeping bag, lying acrossways, inside the bag!!!!!!
PS photo of said camp in gallery!
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
I also suffer a bit from claustrophobia, and many years ago when I was about twelve ish, I had managed to turn through 180 degrees whilst asleep. I woke up in the early hours in total darkness, but due to the door now being the other end I could not find the zip. I've never forgotten how bad I felt, but my dad was able to talk me down. I think I probably woke the rest of the camp that night as well.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
