Alas, I could just about put the Tigris 400 up on my own when I bought it - but time has passed, my elbow is worse than it was then, and it's just too much like hard work now. Pitching it in my daughter's garden this weekend proved that. I had intended daughter and family to have the use of it, but now I've given it to them. They didn't have a tent and are keen to start camping with the two little boys (nearly 3 and 6 months) - they've enjoyed its company over the weekend.

I've been looking at alternatives, but finding a tent I can stand up in (I'm 5'2") and put up alone is a challenge! The only one I've found so far that looks possible is the Outwell Arizona L dome tent, which has 6' headroom - luxury! - fibreglass poles, not steel. It costs a bit more than I'd want to spend, but I realise options are limited. There are masses of tents out there, but finding one with height and ease of solo pitching is difficult.

I'd like to pick your knowledgeable ukcs brains please... does anyone know of a tent with sufficient headroom and fibreglass poles (the weight of the steel ones was part of the problem) that might fit the bill, costing less than £150? One that will keep the rain out, and not blow over in a bit of a breeze? Seems it'd need to be a 3 man or 4 man, to get any chance of the height. Hope you can give me some pointers.

Khyam Freelander?

I can put it up on my own and I am only 5'2. Need the canopy in the front to minimise water ingress though.

The only other issue I can foresee is the sloping front door can make it more difficult to open and close if one has difficulties in bending down.

I got round this issue by attaching a large split ring to the zip tag, so that I can pull it using an extra long peg extractor available from Delta Pegs/Groundanchor.

Vango Beta?

The 450 is 155cm high (I make 5'2 about 152) so should be able to stand up although it's tight. Definitely 1 person pitchable as I have no issues pitching my Green Bean 350 which is the same basic design and only slightly smaller.

Mine also coped admirably with 45mph winds :)

What about the Sandon 500 or Berkeley 450 - no experience of either but would appear to be single person pitchable and Vango's should be fine in poor weather.

The Arizona is harder to put up than the Tigris. Please take a look at our video on how to but up a glass fibre poled tunnel tent by one person. The Tigris is as easy as any tent if you pitch it by pegging the four corners first the open the front door and just fit one pole/hoop at a time.
You can find the video on YouTube by typing in "Outwell Nevada m pitching video" by cross camping.

Thanks for the ideas - plenty to follow up there! Good warning about the Arizona, too. The main struggle I have is fitting the pins into the poles; I find the more lightweight and flexible fibreglass poles easier to deal with. Ah well, my eyeballs have had enough for tonight - will look up those suggestions tomorrow!

Have to admit I'm nervous, not about pop-ups, but popping them down again! They look cute though. The Gelert Cabana is a treat to look at, but about £100 more than I can reasonably pay, sadly. In following up your suggestions I've noticed the Vango Sandon 500 which is shorter and lower than the Tigris and much lighter, with enough headroom in sleeping AND living areas, which the Khyam Freelander lacked - though the pole system sounded intriguing. There aren't any reviews of the Vango Sandon 500 on ukcs. I'll check out the vids, Cross camping - and that tip about the split ring is nifty, dk168 - will remember that.
Hmm... or Vango Apollo 500? But reviews infer leakiness in living area?

Not sure where you are looking re gelert cabana 4 price being £100 over what you want to pay ?? I paid £ 150 only last month Granted I got it on ebay but paid a little extra as its the purple discontinued colour , very hard to find, but I did see them in other colour new for similar price through on line traders.
