I know it's frustrating, but I would just be patient and if necessary take a break from camping just for a few years, until the young folks are more mature.
We had a ten-year break from tent camping while they were teens and going through uni. It was hard, but it was the right thing to do at the time. We didn't push our holiday agenda, but were just happy when they did honour us with their presence... It helped that we were all into bodyboarding and hiking, so our holidays in a static in Cornwall were fairly attractive to them, especially since everything was paid for!
Now they're in their thirties they come camping with us again and we camp as extended family with their other halves and our little grandson. We never forced them to do anything, and it's paying off now.
Been through all that and came out the other side OK...My 4 are all grown up(age wise) now youngest 21yrs...When we were going through all the moody stuff in their teens...virtually one after another(Sometimes ALL together) we didn't have any options about leaving them at home or with rellies etc...
What we did was take them....Sometimes grumbling and moody...But we took them!!...And within the confines of our budget gave each of them a day where the rest of the family did what they wanted to do....Day trip out somewhere...A night(One only) at the amusements/shows etc...(costly that one) or let them decide on a BBQ etc...
As I say...all up now...and off doing their own things...But youngest has managed to come with me(camping)on my main holidays the past 3yrs...
First time she came...I was concerned she would be bored..So had a full itinary of day trips and excursions planned so she was not stuck sat by the tent all day...
Asked her towards the end of the holiday if she had enjoyed herself...Yes she said..."But there was no need for all the day trips out" "As I would have been quite happy sitting outside the tent by the beach for a week"
?????....Can't win can you.....

Eldest two do what they want due to their age.
Girls have to come (family holiday), but may bring a friend if they wish. (My mum did this on at least one occasion with us)
Youngest is happy cos he gets more camping.
I'd say the idea of being selective with your location would help, I don't know what your girls are 'into' - my daughter is an outdoors nut, which will help, as we're planning on doing outdoor pursuits sometime next year (she's 21).
Our general rule of thumb is they come on holiday until 18, so this is twins last yr.
However at Easter we all went as family and eldest plus on of the twins came home on Tues. we came hom Friday, they returned for work. We are also going away in Aug with just one twin plus the youngest son, other twin will be at home for work, as will daughter.
But prior to this yr, there was no leeway, under 18 you came on holiday. Son working has made us change this

Campers do it in the mud!
Hubby says we can't camp as much this yr mmm we'll see!!
camped in 2009= 27nights
Booked for 2010 = 30 nights.
I havent ever been to one but what about a music festival weekend, camp bestival springs to mind but I am sure there are more. Could be a bit pricey but I am sure young teens would find that cool ?

Thank you all so very much for your wise words and views. You lot are amazing and reassuring ( makes me realise I'm not going mad!!)
I really appreciate all the different takes and suggestions. I'm sure if I ask the girls to bring a friend each they'd be up for it and as we have an Outwell Hartford XL so they can have their own pod ( OH wouldn't sleep if they were in a separate tent!)
I think I'd be more worried about the 2 boys at home left to their own devices!!But as long as the house is still standing after 2 nights I can cope with the mess and chaos! Will speak to the girls and get them to help find a site they like.
Thanks again you wonderful lot
------------- It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.
