so just packed cloths for me and 3 kids for 2 nights. I have packed an outfit for each day and 1 night outfit.

how do you all pack cloths when you go for a week or longer. do you take an outfit for each day (kids can get messy) do you plan to wash your cloths while you are away? when I go for a week it seems I will have to take way to much am I missing something.

I always take more tops than days I am going. I like a choice and generally you'd need a mixture of tee shirt, vest type and long sleeve for the variation in weather. Bottom wise I'd usually take around 4 pairs of long trousers/jeans plus 'slobby' type bottoms for the showers and evenings for a 1 week camp. For our 2 week camping I tend to takel lots but usually end up doing 1 wash load. I refuse to go away and do lots of washing.

It totally depends on what you intend doing . We have scruffy campsite cloths walking gear quick drying type stuff and a decent set for the pub or when you need to look a little smart . We nearly always pack to much clothing and we've cycled round the world so should know how to pack and travel light but kids and weather can conspire to make that difficult . if you could guarantee the weather 3 outfits or sets of cloths would be enough . cloths that can be mixed and matched work better than a specific outfit per day .
The best advice is trial and era .
Travel towels are the best space saving as well as being quick drying .

I put my son back in dirty clothes, he will only get them filthy in 5 mins so what is the point of clean ones

That's what we do too! Divide clothes into really dirty and still wearable, there isn't enough room in the car to keep DS in clean clothes for anything longer than a couple of days. My SIL has even returned home early from a holiday because the kids ran out of 'clean clothes'.

Never miss a good drying day . Just hand wash a few things . Peg them to your guy lines .

I live in cotton Hawaiian shirts, shorts and Crocs in the warmer months, and would iron sufficient shirts so that I have a fresh one for every day.

If the weather is cool requiring me to wear a fleece jacket over the shirt, then I may wear a shirt twice.

I normally take a trolley case for the clothes, and a hold-all for beddings and spare clothes in case I need them.

I ironed nearly 20 shirts when I went to Scotland for 2 weeks, and needed to take an additional hold-all for clothes.

We don't take any 'going out' clothes as the most we would do is go for lunch in a 'dog friendly' pub, our evenings are spent sat with a beer outside (hopefully!) the tent. For a week stay I will usually take a couple of pairs of long shorts, couple of pairs of long trousers and a variety of vests and tshirts, might do a wash mid week if getting low on stuff, and take stuff that dries easily, that suits our type of camping trip. DH takes trackies and tshirts while DS (16) would live in the same pair of shorts all week if I let him! I think with small children it's easier to wash a few things out, most sites have washing facilities and tumble dryers if the weather's not up to drying outside, little things don't take long to dry.

For a week I take 4 trousers and around 6/7 tops(vest tops, tunics, long sleeved) then a couple of jumpers, for the kiddies I take 2 pairs of old joggers/shorts for ont he campsite then a 4/5 nice outfits for day outs but i make them change as soon as back on camp! When we go away for 2 weeks we take the same and i do one was after the first week!

We tend to keep the same pair of jeans/trousers/combats for sitting about camp in as that's where we get grubby.

Then have a few clean pairs for out and about, just change when we get back to camp.

A clean top and undies for each day, 2 hoodies/jumpers (pack 1 & wear 1) and a set of waterproofs.

Washing small bits out if needed.

Two sets of beach stuff so they can be rinsed out and worn alternate, board shorts and swim ware dry quickly.

Hi Jayne,

For our long summer vacation (usually 3 weeks) I take 7 outfits per kid, underwear for every day, set of pyjamas for each week, plus some sweaters/hoodies and some washing powder. Underwear, clothes and pyjamas go into compression bags, so that they take up less space in the car. A pair of flip flops and a pair of converse for each kid, and waterproofs and wellies if we go to rainy countries.

During the year I also save up clothes that are on the verge of being thrown away (small holes in underwear/t-shirts etc.), I take them with us for a trip, let the kids wear them for a dirty/muddy day and then throw them out.

Since we usually go to countries other than our own there's lots of unfamiliar shops to explore, so I usually purchase additional clothes for the boys anyway, they fit in the space of the stuff we've thrown out...
