Hi we are going away camping in july and as glampers we need to take a
Tv with us we are looking into buying a tv usb pen drive/dongle that you put into your computer we need to know which make is the best and and whether we need wifi as at the campsite their is limited access.
Never had much success with TV dongles, I'd go with an internet dongle instead, connect to the internet and you can watch TV through a website like CatchupTV, you don't need wifi to do this as you pay to top up your dongle. I have a 3 one and put £15 on it when we go away for a week, we always have time left on it when we come home.

Aug/Sept - Leekworth
Hi cassettes we use a maplins tv...its only tiny but picks up loads of freeview tv and radio stations for free its a good picture and we ise a smallportable speaker to boost sound
TV dongles depend on the signal where you are going. We bought one for the Jubilee week last year as it rained solid for 8 days - we hooked up to the sites aerial and it was a great picture and had all the channels.
Again Internet dongles depend on where you are going. Best to check a cell coverage site before relying on that.

Portable TV antenna's are just a nightmare IMO, I would not bother these days personally.
We sometimes use 3G, but a MiFi (or similar) is a better option than a USB dongle as it can be positioned for a good signal, plus multiple devices can connect (kids iPhones etc). It's often not good enough for TV with decent quality (although i have had really fast speeds in bery remote places) and expensive (you can use a fee GB's in a single evening).
Never seen a good wifi connection at a campsite, because its usually slow (rural location and lots of users). It's usually either free, or really expensive.
Best option is to load up a tablet or media player with movies and TV shows before you leave for those long rainy Sundays.
Had great success with the August branded Freeview USB stick, its very sensitive, also recommend the USB powered boosted aerial. I have also bought the indoor USB which also works well, and can thoroughly recommend, and less than £30 for the lot from Ebay.
I have always resorted to portable satellite, never having any success with Freeview up to buying the dongle. Used it in four campsites this year, with no problems.
The dongle comes with a remote as well, although the supplied supplied aerial is of little use unless near a transmitter. Assuming you have a recent Windows laptop it'll work fine, I'm using it on a 2008 Vista machine. It won'y work on an Apple Mac.
I have an August T205 dongle and it works great on most sites with the supplied telescopic aerial, provided that you have the aerial horizontal and turn it until you receive the signal.
If you mount the aerial vertically you will never get a decent signal.
Quote: If you mount the aerial vertically you will never get a decent signal.
That depends if the transmitter you are trying to pick up is horizontal or vertical mode, as a rough guide relay's tend to be vertical, main transmitters horizontal.
I was at Wild Duck last week lots of trees so couldn't use my sat kit, however on the EHU were sockets for digital tv, bought a long cable from asda, and bob's your uncle perfect Freeview! If you're using EHU it may be worth checking with the site to see if there's a tv connection there too.
