So, off to Cornbury festival with the family this weekend and will be dragging in the Bear Lake with trimmings.

Is it practical or indeed possible? Are we mad? We'll soon find out...

I've had the usual dilemma so oft expressed on this forum. Do I need to get a lighter tent for weekends and festivals?

My thoughts are that whilst the Bear is big and heavy it's not so big and heavy to not put up with the lugging grief and enjoy the comforts at camp for four nights, not least with two sproggos under 5, and lets face it, pitching the thing is a cinch even if transporting is not.

If successful I'll post some triumphant pictures, if not I'll quietly slope off wounded.

Anyone else dragged of these sorts things into a festival and if so how was it for you?

Porbeagle, you should be fine as long as you have a set of wheels. And by that I mean a festival trolley (or even 2). Never under estimate the distance you may have to travel to find your field/pitch.

The worst ever argument my husband and I had was at a festival. A friend had very kindly pitched our family tent with the rest of the group the day before, so all we had to do was trolley along our food, drink and belongings. Sadly we had no mobile reception when we arrived. Imagine trying to find your blue tent in amongst a sea of 12,000 other blue tents. Nightmare!!!

Good luck with your festival (and bear lake), hopefully you'll have a better experience than we did

I took a tepee (Vango Juno 500 now discontinued) to a festival last year and it was as big as I would want to carry. We had wheels, but food was so expensive there that we tried to take as much of that as possible and luckily the weather was good and so we spent our time sitting outside the tent rather than in it. We didn't take chairs either. Bottom line is, if you're prepared to carry that stuff then go for it, but I know I've done two festivals and I learnt after the first one to travel light and give food priority of space.

Thanks Susan, wise words and a funny story although not for you at the time! I have taken note!

Campernic,sage words also, were planning to take plenty of food also so I think two runs from car to pitch will be necessary. Weather does indeed look good, my brother has a Hi Gear Zenobia 6 which is a fraction of the bear. With your comment about sitting outside in good weather rather than in I'm tempted to ask for a borrow.....

We have 2 tents. One for weekends and festivals and a larger one for longer trips.
