Does it have to be a special car camping one? I use a Vango Adventure Tarp on everything, tent, beach shelter, car, static caravan, grandson's buggy, OH's camping chair... With a bit of invention, you can attach a plain ol' tarp to anything!

Many thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas. My problem is now, one of ageing. At the ripe old of 69, I am now finding pitching a tent for one or two nights a bit trying. Anything longer I 'm ok with. So what have I done. I've bought myself a little Volkswagen 4x4 which I can sleep in. So cooking and everything else will be done outside under a tarp, shielded by a windbreak. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Hi, why not have a look at an Oztent Foxwing awning. A frame attaches to roofbars and the awning attaches to that and then runs along the side of the car and wraps around the rear. They aren't cheap but look good quality. You could also look at an Oztent as these seem to be really easy to put up and take down.
Just a thought Mike....wouldnt it be great if Caranex did a version of their pick-up tents with inflatable poles..I would be ordering one sharpish......Have a look at a website from usa company called lakelandgear/com---some really interesting ideas....gets you thinking! Sorry..cant answer your original question
