The midges have just arrived Here in Alston Cumbria with a vengeance. We have a one day music festival here on the 19th of June "Alston Live" (sorry for the plug) so just hoping there is a bit of a breeze up to blow the little devils away.
There is a mosquito/midge repellent made in Alston (Highland Strength anti-mosquito) and the local people swear by it. I put some on last night when the midges were bad and you can actually see the midges coming towards you then as soon as they get around 6 inches away they just fly off in the other direction. They (midges) must have amazing sense of smell as they did land on the back of my hands where I had washed the Highland Strength off.
Flame thrower and a burning circle of petrol round your tent works....Extreme I know...But works!!
Two drawbacks to this method...1) You are left with an empty fuel tank on the car at the end of the week...
2) The social side of camping takes a nosedive,,,As do trips out and visits to the loo....No one can get near you because of the scorched earth in a 15ft radius round your tent.....And you cant go anywhere cos of the burning circle of petrol....But hey....Small sacrifices to make in the eternal midgie war.....

Hmm...
Was thinking of suggesting digging a moat, and filling with piranha, to stop those ignorant gits who traipse over others' pitches. A ring of fire, though, seems a lot quicker, with less effort.
Thanks for the tip, Jellers, even if it was unintentional for this purpose!
Unleaded burns Smokey!! Two advantages to this...Clears the lungs quickly in the morning....
And you cant see the ones that bypassed the burning pit and thrower coming at you because of the tears streaming down your face..........
By gum Bryan...Your a bit of a rebel aintcha?? Peat log burning on a c+cc site Outwith the clearly defined and no doubt well posted rules....What did you expect...An open arms welcome.........
