I have used Fabsil on a polyester tent, this has left some patchy stains, any ideas on how to remove or reduce thank you.

Did you clean the tent thoroughly prior to applying the Fabsil as I have never known Fabsil stain polyester so I would think you've sealed in some dirt

Just wondering. Did you just do a small area, as I notice on the tin it says it can darken the the material.

If the tent was clean and dry prior to applying the fabsil you have more than likely not worked it evenly over the material and the dark areas are silicon pooling. However this is more common on PC or CC flysheets. You have 2 options A: grab some white spirts and a clean cotton cloth and try working the dark areas out, as such spreading the silicon more evenly and if this does not work its B: this may sound crazy but start again with more fabsil as this will again break down the silicon and return it to a fluid state again allowing it to be moved around and spread more evenly. Fabsil is basically white spirit and silicon, the white spirit once applied evaporates and leaves the silicon to repel the water but this must be evenly distributed otherwise you get dark areas once it dries.

Hope that helps and good luck, oh and there is always the help line at Grangers if you need confirmation of what I have written.

Good luck

Thanks for your replies.

Arsenaldes I believe you are right, I have sealed in some dirt, leaving streaky lines! However, this is a new tent and I have made the wrong assumption it was clean, says an annoyed, should know better plonker!! (Take note anyone about to Fabsil or Nikwax)  you may also wonder why iam doing a new tent ? because we are going somewhere very hot and previous tents have faded, on the plus side! after hosing down it is now like pouring water onto glass, with no leaks inside, all the needle holes on the seams must be well and truly sealed.

Thank you to Pitchmaster, your advice is very informative and sounds common sense.

As for the Zebra note, the wife is now worried we might get attacked by a lion Ha! Ha!

As for Grangers they did not reply to my email, and their answerphone allows for a small message only, and yet again no reply!! Dont worry Grangers I admit liability, I just wanted your help, sounds like you should employ Pitchmaster.

Thank goodness for the Campsite forum and its wealth of user knowledge.
