All packed up ready to load car and collect rent a child aka nephew tomorrow.
Hubby's working all weekend so I'm taking the wean to an airshow in Newcastle and thought we could stay rather than battle traffic back out.
When I asked him did he want to stay at out house or camp. He replied he wanted to stay in the new blue tent. He was disgusted when I told him we had to stay in the Quechua pop up tent. (i can't put the other one up on my own). 4 years of age and already has an opinion on which tent he prefers uh oh.
Funnily enough I'm going for a one nighter today with my nephew too, he's 12 and he likes camping but his family aren't keen. This is our first Auntie and Nephew trip, so I hope it goes well. My own kids don't want to come though.
I'm taking a pop up too, it's a stand up height one though. I am amazed at your gear, I've got about twice that and I thought I was doing well! What all are you taking?

Hope you had a great trip with your nephew. I am so chuffed that I'm allowed to take mine camping. We don't have kids so I'm really chuffed that they let me take him.
We had a great time at castlewellan forest, hubby joined us this morning for a walk and lunch. He went back to work then I took the wee man to dundrum castle where he had a great time exploring the ruins. He's now fast asleep and I am dreading trying to wake him!
The Quechua pop up tents are great fun aren't they?!
One of my favourite bits this weekend was when I got the tent up two ladies walked past saying flip that tent went up quick, we weren't away that long were we? Or maybe the audience I got folding it back up!!
Oops sorry forgot we had kettle, 2 bowls, 2 plates, 2 cups, milk shake and red sauce as well! We bought sandwiches and fruit at lunch at the airshow on sat.
I forgot to mention some stuff too, the tongs and washing up bowl and the fairy etc.
I've camped in Castlewellan, it's a lovely setting. I was in the Shepherds Rest this time, first time for me. I normally go to Benone or Hillfoot. Can't believe we're both in NI, both having auntie and nephew weekends, and both using quechua pop ups...chances of that!
Thanks for the details on the other sites I'm really new to camping so am always keen to hear of other places. I 've only been to tollymore forest, Castlewellen forest and Carrick Dhu.
Carrick dhu would probably be my favourite out of the three as the showers are so clean and the site is really well maintained. I really like the wee walled area for the tents as well.
I loved the setting at castlewellen but was really sad to see quite a lot of rubbish left behind by people. To be honest I think I prefer the camping area at tollymore but prefer castlewellen forest itself. If that makes sense!
Hi, sorry only getting to read forum again now! I've never been there but I've heard the walks are gorgeous. Especially when the bluebells are out. I think I remember reading the facilities are quite dated but that seems to be the usual with forests.
Would definitely recommend tollymore. Was speaking to a girl at the weekend who had stayed at castlewellen for 2 weeks in her caravan and loved it. It's definitely not the site for me though. They seem to have over night security at castlewellen now.
Lucky nephew! Me and husband often took our nephews camping, although husband wasn't so keen, but the boys loved it and still do! Amazed at the small amount of kit you have! I need to reduce what I take, shall take nots from you!
