Hi All,
Does anyone know if there are groups or websites around for `Solo` campers? Sometimes, I would like to just take off on my own for the weekend camping by the coast, just to `get away from it all` and just wondered if there were others that do this. I would be grateful for any advice or information.
I have done it a few times but OH doesn't like me walking in the hills on my own. Just take enough stuff for you, a book, iPod and you will be fine. It chills me out
I've been a solo camper for over three years now. From Easter to October my van is more or less permanently packed with all my camping stuff, and though I have several arranged holidays during the season I do sometimes take off on the spur of the moment for a quick get-away somewhere quiet.
You don't say whereabouts in the UK you are but there's a single parents and solo campers group on here which meets up regularly. Most members live in the north west and the meets are held at various sites in Lancs, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire but there are some members who travel from much further afield. You'd be most welcome to join them if you wanted to - the next meet is in September at Lady Heyes at Frodsham.

I sometimes camp with my teenage children and sometimes camp on my own with my two dogs, so I suppose I'm a solo camper too (although I've yet to achieve solo camping this season - but it's not over yet!). For me solo camping is a real treat and I really treat it as an indulgence, a chance to suit myself, eat when I want, do what I want. I love it!
I go camping on my own with the dog since 2009, and do not belong to any other club except for UKCS and the Camping and Caravanning Club.

I'm off all the time on my own....Thanks to the wee back packing thing I am on at the moment...And the issue of my bus pass back in January...
Having said that...I meet up regularly with some folk on here...And some I have met on my travels...So not short on company when I need it....
I think if you want to get off on these sort of solo trips you really have to get off your backside and just GO...Or you would never get off anywhere...
I call them my wee "Maddy" moments where I take a wee "Maddy" and just go...Sometimes to the detriment of other hobbies/pastimes/housework....
