Hi all, just back from our annual bank holiday long weekend to Barmouth in our Orchy 600 with extention. While there the front extention zip has split at the teeth and we cant get it back on the opposite runner. Has anyone else repaird this problem? and if so, how? We were thinking of maybe getting a seamstress to overlay a new zip over the existing broken zip. Any advice appreciated.
A tent repair specialist is your best option, they can replace the zip. Might cost a few pounds but so would a seamstress and she wouldn't have the correct tent weight zips in stock, so you'd have to supply this too. Or a sailmaker. You need a decent sewing machine too to tackle tent repairs, your average lightweight domestic machine will struggle. I've replaced tent zips myself a few times but I am a good home seamstress plus I have a good solid black Singer from the 30's which will sew anything.
Are you sure the zip is beyond repair btw? Sometimes if you sit down in a nice quiet place and zen out about it you'll find it goes back together eventually.
Cheers Val. We`er going to have another go at getting the zip back together but failing that we have got an old friend who`s a decent seamstress who knows what she`s doing.
Hi
If you look at the bottom of the zip you will normally find a small piece of material covering the end of each side of the zip. If you snip this material away you will be able to remove the zip closer and and refit it on both sides making sure you fit it the same way round then simply sew up the material at the end of the zip.
