There we go we now have a definitive answer and nothing to do with Glasgow (sorry) thanks Shellipoos! Basically it’s because the shop is too close to the “undesirables”. One other thing, if you do use the store car park on returning to your car just check it still has all its wheels….or more importantly is still there. Sounds just like Lewisham!
Yes, there are some good areas. I'm just not lucky (or rich) enough to live in them. And of course there are some good 'uns in the bad areas. But sadly they are overshadowed by the majority. A police van attends an issue in my small street every few days and we're surrounded by unsupervised, badly behaved kids I don't think this is just a Glasgow/ Scottish problem though, it's UK wide. I love many things about where I live but the behaviour of the selfish ones can make life a misery.

can't believe some of the posts on this thread regarding Glasgow people...and I certainly wouldn't agree that the whole of the central belt is turning into a ghetto, there are more good, infact realy good area's than there are bad....but even in those so called "bad " area's there are some great people who take pride in their homes and keep them lovely and whose kids are a credit to them and have never been in trouble....
I'm half Scottish, Irish, Dutch and English (you can spit at the English bit). Scotland is a beautiful place full of beautiful people. As are the vast majority of people throughout the green and beautiful land of the UK.
Too often we are ready to jump on the band wagon and say how bad things have got. The truth is the population has grown over the last few decades not due to immigration as the press and ill-informed people would like to believe but because we are living longer. We are an extremely tolerant law abiding nation (except everybody hates the English). Viva the UK and long may she be a proud nation.
Just to add this may change in a few months when Scotland becomes independent and its own country with the Euro. So it will then be Viva England, Wales and Northern Ireland plus the Independent country of Scotland!! Blimey bit of a mouthful
SummerSky can I just add your extremely lucky to have an efficient police service. It’s like the medieval times in Lewisham. Not a policeman in sight, I think they are too scared to come out. The irony is we have the biggest police HQ in Europe down the bottom of the road (literally).
Mind you on saying that when we had the summer riots in 2011 it didn’t last too long in Lewisham. Mainly because the selection of shops is pretty rubbish and secondly due to the mounted horse division, riot police and huge amount of police and vehicles. Sometimes living so close to a police HQ does have its advantages.
Actually the statement about not a policeman in sight is not true. We have the mounted police use our street quite often as they take their horses on exercise in the local park. Must say thanks for that as well, the horse manure has really helped my marrows this year.
I'm a Glaswegian, so is my dad whilst sis was born in Bellshill. My folks live in Lanark now and we've lived in Coatbridge. There are good parts to every area in every country. You'll get a good area right next to a so called bad area but sometimes the biggest thugs are the ones from the good side of town.
I've been following this thread gobsmacked and a bit disappointed. As I said, I'm a Glaswegian. I've lived in Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Edinburgh and the Vale of Leven (the wild west) I'm not a scumbag and my kids are very well behaved. This behaviour is not a Glasgow, Lanarkshire or Scottish thing. It is symptomatic of what is happening throughout western Europe.
