Hi all

We're quite new to camping, took 2 tents to Derbyshire last month and had a great time. Now we're thinking of buying 2 Outwell Vermont xlp's, two families you see.

After finding a couple of sites who seem to be very picky about the size of tents they allow, we're just wondering whether any Vermont owners have had problems finding campsites willing to accept them?

Thank you all in advance!

How big is the Vermont? Excluding guy ropes?

Max size accepted on a C&CC pitch is 5m x 8m, after that you need to book a jumbo pitch. On private campsites the rules do vary, if you don't need EHU and can go on the open tent field you'll have far less problems with a big tent.Otherwise the size of tent accepted is dictated by the spacing of the hook-up posts, usually, or any fixed boundaries the campsite may have put in. Some campsites are less fussy than others as to how closely you can pitch your tents but for fire safety and privacy there should be a decent gap, the C&CC insist on a 6m gap between units for example.

But if your tent is smaller than 5m x 8m you should be fine in most places.

Hello!

As far as we can find out, the Vermont is 810 cm long, just over the 8m limit for C&CC pitches. We don't use hook ups so hopefully we should be ok to get onto an open field and choose our own pitch.

Some sites have clearly marked pitch boundaries that are not easy to change, and I do not believe it is unreasonable for them to "regulate" the size of tent that can fit into a pitch, as long as the information is clearly stated up front.

I am sure there are plenty of sites with less tent size restrictions, and to be honest, I shall avoid such sites, as I prefer my tenting neighbours to keep their distances from my tent, for noise as well as health and safety concerns.

Good luck with your search.

I thought the vermont was 7.9m, they advertise it as fitting a C&CC pitch.

Have seen them everywhere we have been this year

Huh, all the websites we've been on say 8.10m.

Guess the best thing is to make sure the site knows what tents we have and check they're ok with them.

Thanks for the help

C&CC jumbo pitch is for tents bigger than 5x9m

Not all C&CC sites takes tents longer than 7.5m though...

We had some problems with a similar size tent in the New Forest a few years back now, the guy was quite stroppy about it even though we had told them when we booked. The following year, same tent, Cornwall, no problems at all ! Sometimes it is just down to who you get on the day i think
