I keep my polycotton tents in the wardrobe in the spare room ticked into the back.
The trout lake tent comes in 2 bags so the canvas & bedrooms stay in the wardrobe while the pole bag with groundsheet stays in the garage.
I also keep the front porch extension in the wardrobe.
The awkward to store tent is my concorde L as the bag is humongous and of course the air-poles are built into the tent so it doesn't pack down small at all. So it lives a d occupies a huge space in the back of the wardrobe!
My little Kampa Minnis4 stays in the garage as its a polyester/nylon tent and although the garage is dry as in it doesn't leak, it's a little damp in winter in there just due to dampness in the air and cold. The Kampa seems to be fine though in there.
I'd always keep a cotton tent inside your house / flat though where the air is likely to be less moist than it would be in a garage.
This may seem a bit extreme, but I would consider raising the bed with wooden blocks just so you can get your tent under your bed to store. The next time I buy a bed ill buy one with a frame and legs and use the space underneath to store lots of things.
Beds with drawers underneath earth up this useful space and give a minuscule amount of storage space back.

My friend next door is a fisherman and told me that mice had destroyed some of his equipment. I know I've had mice in my garage and have just recently put some traps down. I hate killing things, but I would hate even more my tents and equipment to be eaten.

youlbury. maybe you can do what my mate does with his tents. he folds them flat. and they go between the bed and mattress. sleeping bags as well. keeps them dry and out of the damp air that can be in the garage. he has done this for a few years. and no probs at all.

I store all my tents and bits in my car roof box which is then stored on its side (strapped to the wall) in the garage, never had any problems.

Both our cotton tents are stored in the garage on steel shelving. Never had a problem yet but each time this type of thread comes up-usually this time of year, I get paranoid. Only trouble is we really have no where else to store them. Fingers crossed again for another winter!

achy hence my question...we have had mice before and it will happen again no doubt, I am still looking and may buy a couple of the wickes boxes I posted earlier in the thread.
As for the keter garden storage boxes, I popped into the garage this afternoon to see a load of camping gear all over the floor and bent bits of cheap plastic in all directions.

What about loft/attic?
If your thinking of the loft just beware of squirrels. I had some belongings in my daughters large loft some years ago. If you had seen the damage them little s***s did you would be amazed. They also seem to like chewing through wires as well.

Ha, that is a bit drastic, for me anyway.

Use a plastic dustbin.I use one to store my fishing bait in.Never had any rodent problems so would work well for a tent too.
I personally wouldnt use anything metal as the risk of condensation and muold/mildew would be high.
Second vote for plastic dustbin. You can buy them with lid clamps.
