Hi all, I've seen a tent for sale and the description sounds great - bought last year only been used twice, one week this year and one week last year. After looking at the photos I can see one if them has the uk campsite writing over it that happens when we upload pics. So I had a nosy - if the person selling the tent is the same person that uploaded the pic on here then they've had it 4 years and looks like its had some holidays abroad.
What shall I do? I want it but don't want to buy it if it's had more usage than what as been described.
Ukcampsite photos are often used on ebay by people who don't have a photo of their own tent. It can be very annoying if it happens to be your photo.
Either way of course, if they are using somebody else's photo suggesting that is their tent and have not said otherwise in the listing, or, as you have discovered they may have had the tent a lot longer than advised, then it could be a bit dodgy.
I would initially contact them and ask or just walk away. There are plenty of good tents for sale
Two ways of looking at this - either the ad is a lie and the tent has been used more than the seller says, or the ad is genuine and the seller doesn't have any photos of his/her own so has taken some from this website. (And I'm not even going into the ethics of sellers 'borrowing' other peoples' pics!) Either way, couldn't you contact the seller and ask enough questions to establish the true facts?

The answer is don't buy a secondhand tent unless you can unroll it a bit at least & inspect the poles etc before paying. So not really a good idea to buy at a distance from ebay, pay & get delivered sight unseen if that is what you are contemplating. A tent only used twice is not a lot of good if it was packed away wet a year ago.
I wouldn't be put off completely from buying a second hand tent online. Some years ago I bought one advertised as 'used once' and in as new condition, and when I received it, it was like brand new apart from 2 guy lines missing which were easily replaced. You pays yer money and takes yer chances but you need to ask a few important questions first if you can't actually get to see it.
If they have used a pic off here it should have the persons user name across it. See if you can find a post from them or their profile page on here and it might have their location. Then check where the seller lives on their ebay advert. That could help you see if its the same tent. Geoff
I've bought two tents site unseen and have been from honest people, both tents going strong, wish I could find the link annex still though.
Having said that it doesn't matter what you buy there is always people who miss discribe their wears .
