However, I used to have a Carolina 3 which is almost identical to the Carolina M and hardly any flies came inside for some reason, so it wasn't so important to have the bedroom pod closed.

The bedroom pod of the Carolina M is quite small compared to most family tents (only a 3 man tent and more suitable for one...or two at a push). The beds can only fit in parallel with the doors, hence the difficulty for the person at the back getting out.

I camped alone and there was plenty of room in the bedroom pod but if flying critters are not a problem I would suggest leaving the door open. The Carolina's are pretty draught free tents anyway so it doesn't make a lot of difference.
