They do get things very wrong sometimes.
The reason we ended up with a Corado 8 once was due to such a ridiculous reason on their part.

We wanted the Carado 6 as it was in the Half price winter sale but Gloucester were out of stock. They did tell us that Bristol had the tent in stock, so I asked them if they could call and check.
They said yes (I even took the phone off the manager to hear confirmation with my own ears) they said they had one left followed by the immortal words "I am stood next to them as we speak Sir.

So a quick trip down to Bristol followed by the pandemonium of all staff trying to find our tent.
After a few severely stern words with the management they gave us the 8 for the price of the 6 and I even got a carpet & kitchen unit at a extra reduction thrown in as well.... now considering all of this was in the half price sale we ended up with a lot of tent for very little money.

Hope to see you on our travels

That is the absolute pits!! Yes, it looks like they are now gonna make up for it, but that's not the point.
This is not a mistake, or a bit of bad luck. Someone actually made this decision, in an attempt to pretty much CON THE CUSTOMER! And a poor job they made of that, too!

I've no complaints with GO, from personal experience, but this would have left me seething.

Thankfully you saw sense to check it out, kaceyjosh.

This is just one scenario, of many, why it is said umpteen times a week on here.... never, ever, ever, think it is a good idea to "leave it until our first trip"!

Ok, you'll survive if the doormat is missing, even a canopy GS (although you wouldn't be thrilled), but there could be missing poles. It might leak buckets, or the zip is knackered and you can't close the door to keep the rain out! Unfortunate, maybe. Unintentional, almost certainly, but any of that would ruin your holiday, particularly if there are kiddies involved!

If it don't fit in your garden, borrow a garden from a friend, relative, or that bloke down the road who's been locked up for not paying his TV license! Get down the local park whilst the kids are at school, if need be. Do it any which way you can, but whenever you come home from the shops with a brand new tent, get it out, get it up, and get it checked.

Close shave, kaceyjosh! Here's to an acceptable outcome!

Not ideal. Just as well you had a trial pitch beforehand!

Are you planning to get away in the replacement tent soon?

I could have understood a return ending up in the new stock pile by mistake, but that was taking the p. Thank goodness you checked it now.

I bought a vango shelter from gooutdoors ..I got it for a great price but noticed the bag had a rip in it..once on site when it was pitched someone noticed what looked like the window and the privacy curtain had been melted but not by a cigarette I returned it and got a full refund no questions asked... ive returned many items back to them and had no probs.

I am pretty easy going about most things...Will let things slide for the sake of an easy life....

One thing that gets my dander up big time is when businesses or employees of said business try and part me from my hard earned dosh with shoddy inferior goods or an aftersales procedure contrary to those glitzy well made adverts that entice me to use their services...

My dander would have been well and truly UP!! If I had bought and test pitched a tent and found it in the condition you described...To me that is nothing short of GO trying to mislead you...And hoping you would just put up with the inferior goods....

Glad its sorted to your satisfaction...

There are a few show rooms/shops that still (I imagine) bear the imprints of my heels on their floors where I dug my heels in and didn't budge till satisfaction was gained...

Thing is....All this heel digging should in this day and age be so unnecessary....IMHO.....

Jelboy.

Yes, and without any communication with the customer. Not good.

And, who needs the hassle of complaining and packaging it all up for return, waiting in for the courier, then waiting for that refund?

At least it sounds like they're sorting it all out amicably, which means a lot. I've never had a problem with Go Outdoors and have bought quite a lot of stuff from there, so let's hope this is a one-off.

Standard retail practice sadly.
If they have a faulty good they will despatch that first knowing it will be returned giving the shop time to get more stock in & still have the good dtuff to sell to any other customers.
A mate of mine was manager of a branch of a certain electrical goods chain & told me this some years ago.
