So we've decided on our new weekend tent.
Going to get the new Vango Isis 500. We will probably get the canopy that goes with this, but I can see that we wouldn't always want to take it for a couple of nights.

But then I just can't work out how I'd cook anything.

I've seen little one hob burners that use the gas cartridges. So I could get one of those rather than lugging the calor cylinder around. But do I store it in the tent, and then just pop it outside on a little table when it's time to cook?

Can't cook in the tent can I? For SO many reasons!

I know Mucker has a tarp, but will that keep stuff dry enough? And really, is that any easier to erect than a canopy?

What should I do?

I've always used one of those gas cannister stoves, I've never felt the need to go for a big gas bottle and double burner stove because I tend to do one pot meals anyway.

I keep it outside, it comes in hard plastic base which doesn't matter if it gets wet or not. I have a table set up outside and keep my two lidded plastic crates with cooking things in the boot of the car. If it rains I cook carefully in the tent, making sure it's on a secure table and I don't leave it unattended. I don't want grease splatters on my tent never mind the fire risk so the weather would have to be bad for me to do this.

If I have EHU I take an electric kettle because what I mostly use the stove for it heating up water for coffee.

A half decent tarp will keep the rain off, yes. Whether a canopy keeps the early morning condensation down, when compared to just a tarp, I know not... I would hazard a guess that it probably does, slightly.
Very little in it, when comparing set up times, imo.

It all boils down to that firm forum favourite... personal preference!!

i use this inside my tent the CampingGaz Bistro!

its so versatile, i can make pizzas on it, frying pan, grill directly on it, boil things ...

i use it both inside my tent, inside my van and outside too. my tent door and windows are always open when i cook inside so theres plenty of air for the flame to burn Cleanly and Safely!

We have cooked in a tent many times, have to with the bad weather. Always made sure there is decent ventilation for the obvious reasons. Also no carpet so any spills gen get srted easily with a paper towel.

I do prefer to cook outside when possible, but the uk weather doesnt always help.

We use those simple briefcase style stove, so they dont take up much space in the tent when needed. Also putting the stove on the floor and some paper around the stove means I can have some bacon without worry. Bad weather wont stop me havng bacon where there is a will there is a way.

Cooking outside does require a good shelter from all the elements, but I have seen some pretty decent setups.

I just cook in the tent if th weather is too bad, door open and be very cautios on the positioning of the gas hob

Never in the tent
Well once burnt / scalded means for me much more careful along with the hole in the ground sheet, in the days before flame retarded materials.

Outside with a windbreak and umbrella when it's really bad, but liking the pic above ,

Never cook in the tent. In olden days, one used to have a canopy over the door and side walls but now either use a tarp or a fishing brolly if weather likely to be wet.
