Not sure I've spelt it correctly......but I have been looking at tents on the Dutch site. Has anybody purchased from this site and able to provide an overview of how it works please?

I 'think' that it's similar to eBay, BUT when you bid it isn't binding and you then contact the seller to arrange direct. I had no problem emailing sellers with the help of Google translate!
Good luck!

I sent a number of emails to various sellers and didn't get a single reply. My emails were in both English and a translation.   Was thinking of just phoning those that do leave a number.

Not everyone replied but we did get some. We also called, as in my experience most Dutch have better English than the English!

Achy - Did you buy any of your set up from Marktplaats? I would be interested in your experience....

In the end, no-direct from Karsten, although it was advertised via Marktplaats. As we were spending so much and I was having to buy it unseen, I was unsure of buying of a private seller. If it had been a lot less I would perhaps have taken the risk. Having said that I have bought several used tents in the past but never unseen. I have always been amazed when selling though that no one has wanted to see the tent! I must just be a very trust worthy soul!

Achy - I see from your tent reviews that you previously had a Norfolk Lake? We currently have the new Wolf lake 7 with awning conversion, so it is huuggge....There's just the 2 of us and our 2 dogs, but we love the space. The tent is great, but takes an absolute age to put up and take down, hence our thoughts on the Karsten. How did you find the switch from a big Outwell to the Karsten? I am looking at the 35o base with sleeping pod and awning etc. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on your experience.

Hi, we have only just got our Karsten and had 1x6 night stay in it. There are 4 of us and sometimes 2 dogs.

It is very different from the NL. We don't have a sleeping pod because my husband and eldest son use large camp beds, which wouldn't fit in. Consequently, we use the 350 pod as a bedroom and the awning space to eat, cook, lounge in...

It's a difference use of space but we got used to that difference by having an Emperor Bell tent for 2 weeks in France. (Now sold).

The quality of our Karsten is better than the Outwell-infact not comparable. It kept us cosy and dry during horrible weather on Easter Sunday and it just shrugged off the wind. By adding a sleeping pod, I expect you would have about as much-if laid out a little differently-to the NL but the Wolf Lake is even bigger I think?

My advice would be to go to James's display (Camping Travel Store) click here and look at the combinations.

They just aren't comparable to the Outwells and James is so helpful. Our outfit is 6 years old but seems like new apart from some marks on the canvas-but that's another story and they are coming off slowly.

The reason I was attracted to the Karsten set up was the modular concept. So we are now selling our 4m bell as well and the Karsten will be the only tent we own.

Hope this helps.

Yes we have! We wanted to buy a Randstad pyramid tent, similar quality to De Waard but better! (we think so!)

Emailed seller and then exchanged a few messages and agreed price. We then sorted out travel arrangements, (channel tunnel and one night's accommodation), and set a time and date to collect.

All went like clockwork and seller was delightful with excellent English. Tent was also as described. We took Euros and paid cash.

Tips: get best description of tent you can, photos etc. Build rapport with seller and allow plenty of time if collecting so you arrive when you say. Don't forget to enjoy the experience if you go and treat it as a mini break. Good luck.
