We are off to the red squirrel this weekend, cycling from Oban to clachaig inn. Unfortunately that means back to basics as we need to carry all our gear. At least it will be warm in the clachaig inn!
I will try and take some photos along the way as its a lovely part of the country.
Have a good trip Scamp....I'm sure you will enjoy the hospitality of the Clachaig....If you can... try and make Sat and Sun nights in the pub...Live band on Sat(gets busy so in early if you can) Accoustic session usually on the Sun...Bit more laid back and chilled Both start around the 9pm mark....
Are you staying at the Squirrel?
Pics would be nice....Cos as you say its a lovely part of the country....

Hi jelboy,
Yes we are staying at the squirrel so using my lightweight Vaude tent and minimal gear. I believe there is a 50s Rock`n`Roll band playing so should be a good night.
Planning on leaving Oban early so should have plenty of time at the squirrel to get to the pub early. Just need to watch how much we drink in Oban the night before or it will take forever to get there
If your looking for a quiet pitch with no firepit to rest your weary bones... turn left up towards the toilet blocks there are a few nice pitches up in what they call the Ultra Quiet Zone....Quick scramble over the rocks and your on the banks of the river!!!

Have a great time scamp. Think you may just miss Mr Call.
We haven't been to the squirrel since the beginning of February. I can imagine its beautiful at this time of year as everything is starting to come to life again. We need to get back up there very soon

Thanks bowies that sounds good will play it by ear and see how it goes. Supposedly very cold from Thursday onwards so a roaring fire might just be perfect !
For a wee bit extra heat....Treat yourself to some peat blocks as well...2-3 of them in with the wood and you will be toasty...
I am assuming you will not be taking an axe so some kindling from the shop to get the fire started might be an idea too....Kindling firelighter(or paper) to start it...Add some of the smaller logs/branches from the site...Once going well add the shop bought logs as that will be a bit larger....But drier!!!

Thanks for all the advice, yes I will take the camera and post some pictures. Looking forward to this trip as it's the official opening of the season I guess
That's all we ask Scamp that piccies are taken and posted...That way the Dead Squirrel Gang get their wee pictorial record of the area when they cant make it up there.....
How far is it from Oban to the Clachaig? Are you doing it over two/three days ???
