hi folks.. with last Saturday being such a lovely day I spent a nice peaceful afternoon on me fishing bed in the back yard.. I decided that night that I was going to sleep outside on me bed in my jrc 5 season bag.. it was a lovely night.. no cold breeze.. just nice warm air... am I mad
Given the number of members who do similar all over the country...If your mad Stewey I don't think you are alone.....
I don't have a garden or yard...But I have a large expanse of grassed area leading down to the woods at the back of my flat...and wish I had the courage to camp out there especially after a test pitch....But I am in the middle of a large housing estate...With the crazies running about 24/7....Dread to think what could occur if some of them took it into their heads to investigate a lone tent on a wide expanse of grass....

Ditto that Bob....I have a guy at work thinks I'm mad going camping in the winter months...Think he thinks I'm sat there in T shirt and shorts without any preparation for the colder weather....
Wonder what HE would make of stewy's post...????

Yup bonkers, as are many on here (myself included) but lets face it don't us mad ones lead a lot more interesting lives? getting out there, socialising and seeing a lot more of the countryside and enjoying the fresh air. Our ancesterors lived in caves didn't they so i guess in a way we are just going back to our roots.I think i might be a little worried if my son and daughter ever thought i was a 'normal' mother, as that could mean boring aswell.
I often think about putting a tent up where I live. We have communal landscaped grounds but I am reluctant for the same reasons as Jelboy. No knowing who might happen to prowling around at night which seems a bit odd when I camped in the Serengeti with just one dozy man with a gun and a fire between me and the lions!
Not mad at all. Half of me would love to do that, and gaze up at the night sky, listen to the sounds of nature etc - the other half whimpers 'creepy crawlies, moths, spiders - nooo!' *sigh*
------------- Always edited for sloppy typing - when I spot it!
I don't think it is mad. We did our first test pitch on last Thursday night and spent Friday and Saturday night testing the tent out in our back garden.
Was surprised just how loud the birds are at 04:30, and how some people leave their dogs out barking all night. We also wanted to get our dog used to spending the night in the tent before we go camping for the first time with him.
Can't beat garden camping. The OH and I do it in his Nan's back garden. It's a lovely, level and sizable pitch, with EHU if required! Spotless ablutions and it's free!
We get to camp and Nan gets to see her number one grandson for the weekend which makes us all happy!!
