Hi everyone. Haven't posted for ages but just back from camping with my daughter and her friend and have fallen in love all over again with our two canvas pyramid tents.
Just when I think the set-up is right, the kids grow up and now my teenage daughter wants to use her tent all the time and I'm stuck in the family tent on my own with the dogs for company. It's also hard work putting the Barbados up on my own while DD and her friend erect the little Djakarta! The other problem I'm worried about being charged for two pitch fees on some sites as her tent although small, pushes the boundaries of 'pup tent' status!
Considering buying a Camp-let TT or similar so DD can sleep in the awning if she comes but worried about managing on my own with only a pair of Jack Russells to help put it up. (DH had given up on camping!)
Love my tents and my Anssems trailer - do I swop them for a TT or just buy more dogs to fill up the Barbados?
Dogs, the answer is definitely more dogs
Though in reality some sites restrict the number of dogs per pitch so that could be more limiting than whether or not your daughters tent qualities as a pup tent. Could you not just go for a smaller version of your current tent?

Hi brickiemum. If I go for a smaller tent, I still have the problem of paying for two pitches and we would lose the 'lounge' area which is just about right for storage and the three of us. It's not that the Barbados is particulary big and it is easy to put up, it's more about getting us into one unit which provides the teenagers with their own separate sleeping arrangements. I wish retailers of TTs would let buyers hire out their models so you could 'try before you buy'as terrified of making a mistake!

You've just answered your own question there btw. Everyone's set up is different, for eg..if you add the footprint of your two tents together it's still less than my large tunnel tent. Could I be charged for two pitches? Sure. But I inform on booking of its size and would look elsewhere if they wanted to charge twice. As long as you point out that you are putting 2 tents close together on the one pitch I can't see the issue. If they do have issue with it then just phone elsewhere. This set up suits you do why change it? Someone out there will happily take your pitch fee to put these two tents together.

Oh and set wise...the girls help you erect the main tent first (as they can put their gear in the lounge) then do the pup tent whilst you kit out the main tent...everyone's a winner

Thanks brickiemum. TBH, the girls did help pack up the cooking stuff and help fold up my tent. I agree with what you say about the pitch fees. I think I'll ring round a few campsites in Somerset as we are planning another outing in July. It will be interesting to see what the response will be. I can never work out the fairness of pitching charges as a caravan an awning are charged as one pitch wear as a medium and small tent taking up less room, are charged as two.
The last campsite didn't charge me for the girl's tent as long as they were 16 or under - mine are 18 and still in full time education - I told them to hide their chests and giggle a lot...got away with it.
